Need info about Amadou Bamba

my mother asked me today about him, and I've never heard of him before.
this is what she (hafidaha Allah) said:

she (an African American Muslimah we know) was concerned because she said that many of the African Americans in Georgia and in Sacramento ... are following this person who is from Sengal and is a sufi.
she wanted background information on him to send around to new Muslims so that they would not fall into this trap

Does anyone have any info about him, that could be useful in warning our Muslim brothers and sisters about him?

He was a sufi who started a tariqah called the Muridiyya. He declared Touba a holy city and said that his followers could make hajj to it instead of Makkah. He died a long time ago but his tariqah is very powerful in Senegal.

They have a very strong presence in Atlanta, a city only about 100 miles (161km) from me that I have visited many times. Many are not that bad, with the typical bid'ah which does not reach the level of Kufr.

However, there is an extreme element which follows the teachings of Amadou Bamba and other leaders of Tijaniya, who believe in such things as amulets and incantations. There is this du'aa they teach which claims to intercede on behalf of the doer and take the place of their Salat! I didn't know about their pilgrimage to Touba, but this is definitely in keeping with their teachings.

May Allah (Subhanahu wa-Ta'ala) expose their kufr and guide them back to Islam. Ameen!
