Not all Arabs are descendants of Ishmael(AS) only Banu Adnan are. They came to Arabia from the outside, therefore they are called Arab Musta'ribah or the mixed Arabs. Ibrahim's mother tongue was Ajami or Persian. When Ibrahim(AS) left Ishmael(AS) in Makkah, along with his mother Hagar, they learned Arabic from the Qahtani tribe Jurhum, which was already settled in Makkah, and later Arabic became the mother tongue of the progeny of Ishmael(AS). There were Arab tribes already on the peninsula before Ishmael arrived, the Arab Aribah the progeny on Banu Qahtan. Scholars are widely divided over the genealogical issue of Qahtan. Yemen is supposed to be origin and ancient land of Qahtan tribes. Some say some of the original tribes of Arabs still exist today in Yemen.
