Mustafa b. Ahmad al-Shatti is described in Mukhtasar Tabaqat al-Hanabila by his own cousin, Muhammad Jamil al-Shatti, as a hardcore Sufi who believed in, and actively called to wahdat al-wujud, i.e. pantheism. No wonder he wrote a book condemning the wahhabiyya. Yes, he became the mufti of Hanbalis in Damascus, but that does not add much to ones value in the Madhab. In those days, anyone and everyone would compete for such official positions to gain status and respect, irrespective of his competence in Fiqh. Ibn Badran, in that regard, has some funny stories to tell. Similarly, not much is mentioned about him in the works of tabaqat, which highlights his lack of importance. He died in year 1348 AH/1929 CE.
