As-Salaamu ‘alaikum dear brothers and sisters,
IslamicAwakening.Com website has been continuing without interruption for quite a few years. Its primary goal has been to educate the masses with authentic Islam with its correct understanding according to the first three blessed generations of Islam. Though we can never claim to have achieved our goal, at least we can say we tried, in spite of being extremely short-staffed.
I would like to bring to our attention two important points related to the future of this website.
1) The direction of this website
The primary purpose of this website is to contribute positively to the development of Muslims, especially in the West. That is to make sure that the Western Islamic Awakening keeps focused on the right path, knows its priorities, obligations, responsibilities locally and globally.
Of course, the world has rapidly changed over a period of last six years, which has caused many of us to re-evaluate who we are, where we are, what are we doing, and what we should be doing. This website forms a part these questions, and hence I think the website must also provide practical answers to such questions, as it should also contribute positively in keeping us focused on our priorities.
As anyone can tell that what I stated above is very vague. This is why I want us all to contribute to this thread as to the direction of this website. After all, the purpose website is not to simply project someone’s way of thinking, but to serve the community. What we need guidance in is how to best serve the community.
2) Contributors
One of the reasons it is difficult to maintain a website and keep it constantly updated is the lack of manpower.
For instance, the news section of the website became the most frequented and the most appreciated section, as the person responsible for it did an excellent job. Naturally, people have their own lives to live and we cannot expect them to dedicate their lives for this website, and consequently, the site needs a constant flow of energetic and enthusiastic news readers who can update the news section regularly with material that interests the Muslim community.
My ambition is to have our own team of journalists who would write news stories on behalf of Muslim community, airing its view on various local and global issues. We all seem to be frustrated at various Muslim bodies speaking on our behalf, be they Sufis and Mojos, but hardly anyone is found who would voice our concerns without mincing his words, or looking like a lunatic. I think, we can use Islamic Awakening as a media outlook to represent our views and speak for ourselves for our own interests.
One of the many reasons why this website has remained stagnant is the lack of contributors; perhaps, because we hardly made a public request for contributors to sign up for voluntary work.
