assalamu alaykum
how can I make website templates made for English websites to work for an Arabic website?
right-to-left
or is that not possible?
I am trying to find ones in Arabic websites (free templates) but many Arabic forums hide the links in their forum posts from non-members, so in order for me to see the links I have to register !
that is so irritating :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: (want to make more angry faces but the limit is 4 images, so just imagine the 10 other angry faces)
they do it to force u to register
I don't want to register in their stupid forum.

Bismillah.
As-salaamu alaykum.
Have you solved your problem yet ukhti?
If no, do the website templates you are trying to modify, use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)?

wa alaykum assalam
nope, haven't found an answer yet, so I just made up my own simple design with the good old frontpage for now.
as for what type, I was just planning on downloading ones that I could modify through frontpage.
I really don't know much about CSS, heard about if from my father, but I didn't really understand it.

Bismillah.
I'm just posting this up for you if you need it for future reference, ukhti. The simplest way to get your text to go from right-to-left on your webpage is to edit the "body" tag as follows:
{body style="text-align: right;"}
YOUR CONTENT GOES HERE
{/body}
You'll have to replace the "{" and "}" with "<" and ">" for this line of code to work, I had to use them in these examples because the quotes wouldn't be visible otherwise.
This will make ALL the text on your page, right aligned. However, if you only want certain paragraphs to be aligned right-to-left, you edit the "paragraph" tag(s) as follows:
{p style="text-align: right;"}
YOUR TEXT GOES HERE
{/p}
Once again, you'll have to replace the "{" and "}" with "<" and ">" for this line of code to work.
STYLESHEETS
If the the template you are modifying is linked to an external stylesheet, find the "body" selector and edit it to include the following:
body {
text-align: right;
}
Note: Don't replace the "{" and "}" as this example is correct.
The other values for the text-align property are:
left: aligns the text to the left side of the page
center: aligns the text to the centre of the page
justify: justifies the text on the page
I hope the above is helpful. Also, if you ever have the time and you decide you want to learn CSS (it's easier than you may think), you should try to complete all the CSS tutorials at W3Schools (http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp)
wa salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.

Abu Nusaybah, if I’m not mistaking, that solution would only align text to the right. I’m under impression that she is looking for a way to enter text from right to left in a template that doesn’t support it. I never tried something like that, so I don’t know how to help.
And Joomla is an excellent CMS, maybe the best one there is, but it is very complicated and takes time to learn. Maybe some simpler blogging software would be more suitable to her needs, something like WordPress.

If anyone found a simple dynamic solution then what necessity he/she have got to make static web!!:eek:
And Joomla is not complicated software and wordpress is simple a blogging cms not portal cms...
Joomla recently develop 1.5 and the core feature is that it support right-left alignment for Arabic&Hebrew Language.
If any one wish he/she can setup joomla and manage it with simple step, Like:
1.Create a Database with username & pass.
2.Upload joomla his directory folder and extract is.
3.run joomla installer like www.yourdomain.com
4. just enter information and setup will complete.
5. find a template from joomla template gallery and install it.
6. create some section and category under section and create content.
7. create menu with content link.
Done! Very simple way..:)
and it is more easy to learn...No need to learn CSS,HTML....]
If fell further problem then i will help inshallah..

Can I say anything without being constantly accused of one thing or another?
I didn’t say women in Arabia are stupid, I said that proposed solution is probably too difficult for someone without a strong background in these matters. And in Arabia you won’t find many women with knowledge of these things, since those are traditionally “man jobs” and law prohibits mixing men and women in the workplace. Because of that, in SA only about 0.2% of students of engineering are women.

Are you doubting my capabilities?
Believe it or not, there are "Arabian housewives" who are much brighter than you are.

one doesn't have to study in uni to learn things like these.
my computer skills (except for typing) I've learned through my father and brother whom are both computer science majors, and on my own through research.

Well, earlier saying that you work in FrontPage and know nothing about CSS speaks a lot about a level of your abilities in the field of web design. Judging by that, I wouldn’t really recommend Joomla to you. I wouldn’t honestly recommend Joomla to anyone who doesn’t plan on going pro in that field.

yes, I am not a professional in web designing, but I basically know what CSS is, but dont' know how to do it, my father kind of explained it to me, but at the time my brains were too tired to try to understand it.
but insha Allah I will try the tutorial.

I beg to differ. I have no formal relevant training, yet I have developed many sites using Joomla, both Islamic and non-Islamic ones, despite the fact that it is not my field, nor is it one I plan to turn professional in.

I recommend using UTF-8 encoding and do what Abu Nusaybah have suggested, using CSS or using the "div"s and "p"s tag with "align=right" attribute. Most browsers can render RTL (Right-to-Left) correctly with UTF-8 encoding.
If you have mixed RTL and LTR texts, you may want to use "direction" attributes, read more tips (http://tlt.psu.edu/suggestions/international/web/tips/align.html)on how to align RTL pages. And this (http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/handson/dev/Mideast.mspx).
