السلام عليكم ه رحمة الله و بركاته

For my Mustalah al-Hadeeth class final I have to write a 10-15 page paper and I have decided to make my topic: The ruling on Action upon Hadith Ahad and the difference between it and Mutawatir

For starters I have a book titled Manhaj an-Naqd fee Uloom al-Hadeeth by Doctor Noorudeen Attr. He does a great job defining terms like Mutawaatir, Ahad, Ghareeb, etc.

I have seen lots of great stuff on the forums, but I need actual books I can cite for the ruling on acting on Ahad. I also want to who opposed the sunni position on this and why they opposed it.

Can you guys recommend any books? I have two weeks to complete this and i want to make this something that would benefit an English-speaking person.

apparently sh jamal zarabozo's 3 volume "explanation of the 40 hadith of imam an-nawawi" has a very good introduction to hadith and discusses (with sources etc) this issue of ahad, mutawatir etc.

i'm personally going to be getting the set in the next couple of days inshallah, so if you want, i can scan the relevant things for you?

جزاك الله خيرا يا أخي الكريم

Chapter 3 of that book looks real promising. I'll definitely being using that inshaa allah. As for Shaykh Haytham's thread, I must confess that is what helped to push me into choosing this topic to begin with!

I actually have this set. I have a good feeling that this discussion would be found in the discussion of Hadeeth 1, as it is a Ghareeb hadeeth, but I'll check after Fajr inshaa Allah.
