Authoritative and probably the most popular Arabic bilingual dictionary. An indispensable tool for students, researchers and translators. Unlike conventional Arabic dictionaries, this is arranged alphabetically for ease of use by those not knowing the root letters.

The Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic combines authority and compactness, providing the serious student of the Arabic language with an essential resource in their pursuit.

What distinguishes it from other dictionaries is its arrangement according to the root letters of a word. In addition to this, its also rich in common and classical phrase and examples of use.

Barak Allahu feek ya akhi,

Here is a useful tool: A searchable Arabic/English dictionary.

Follow the steps to get it:

1. Go to http://www.muhaddith.org/downloads_free_islamic_software_books.html
and download Al Muhaddith Search Program. (or just click here (http://www.muhaddith.org/PUB/gohad1136.exe)).

2. Install it, then go here: http://www.muhaddith.org/lexicons.html
And download 'Arabic - English Dictionary' and 'Al Qaamoos Al Muheet'.
Follow the instructions to add them to the Muhaddith program.

3. When you open the Muhaddith program, you just press F2, then type in the empty field (either in english or Arabic) and press search. If the word is found you will get an english translation and the definition in Arabic from the 'Qaamoos al Muheet.'

4. If the word is not found then maybe you need to put it in it's root form. This requires some basic knowledge of the Arabic language.
