Assalamu 'alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Insha Allah I would like to gather as many narrations/quotations about humbleness as possible.

By humbleness I don't mean khushoo', rather I mean tawaadu' or lowering oneself for knowledge [of Allah's Deen], not being ashamed or arrogant when it comes to knowledge, accepting advice/corrections, avoiding arrogance (in general, not just related to seeking knowledge) etc.

For example, I have read a story about Imam Maalik being corrected one time by a student about washing between the toes in wudoo'.

Another example is how Imam ash-Shaafi'ee would consider Imam Ahmed (his student) to be more knowledgeable than he was in Hadith.

And of course, the famous "Tell them that Maalik ibn Anas does not know." story.

And I remember reading a quote (probably here), something similar to "Knowledge is of 3 types: 1. Allah said, 2. His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, and 3. 'I don't know'".

And the story of 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab (RA) one day getting on the pulpit and telling the Muslims that he was once a shepherd. (gist of it)

Whoever thinks of a story/quote or finds one, please do post it here. If you have it in Arabic then that would be better,

Barak Allahu feekum
