Asalaam alaikum warahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I wanted some advice regarding teaching Qur'an to children, I recently joined a class which has 9 children from the ages of 5 to 7 (roughly), they are learning to read Qur'an and also memorizing.

I wanted to ask if anyone knows any good Tajweed books for children, and any other ideas on how to make learning the Qur'an fun and interesting for them. They need activites to do while waiting for their turn to read, so they usually draw and colour.
Also if anyone knows of any books where the children can colour in different hadith or dua's relating to the Qur'an or anything similar

jazakAllahu khairan

Assalaam alaykum

i have an opinion here that may be hard for you but it's best to know in sha Allah you will be patient about learning the quran.

surah 7 al araf verse 204
when the quran is recited, listen, pay attention and keep silence may be mercy will be shown to you.

you are not allowed to do anything else while others are reciting, try hard not to get bored because you will still benefit. since quran is all about memorisation you shouldn't waste a minute while others are reading. you should read with them or just listen because the day you will reach that chapter, it'll be easy for you and if you already know it then it's like revision.
remember you are defeating shaytan so please ignore any idea of boredom and if you win, you also gain great amount of patience.

the modern method is very wrong, people made it look like that quran can be boring so let's make it more fun by printing more books for our kids. that's already dangerous, a child could be overwhelmed with weakness, hypocrisy and wont take it seriously.
a muslim child should be trained to do things with patience, children adapt to anything. if you think they will get bored and bring more funny stuffs they will get along with it. yes there should be having fun or playing but reading should be serious.
you have to be hungry for knowledge even by just listening to kids reciting you are benefiting.

some might think this is a tough approach but the quran is also furqan, if you take it seriously you will gain. if you treat it like second best you will also get that little, if you neglect it will go away.
if you recite it all the time, you used to listen to music now you stopped and only have quran you will be amazed how much you know.

Baarakallahu feek, but I think what the sister means is that there are usually activities the children whilst they are called one by one to recite. This was a method I personally took with children - take them outside or to another room so as to not distract the one reciting or disrupt the recitation with classroom noise etc.
