Assalamu alaykum,

i wonder if anyone could help in this subject. A group of teenagers want to go to London to 'study English'. Because we are british we have been approached by their parents to help in this matter, as the parents are a bit worried about what else the kids could learn whilst in UK.

I totally oppose the idea because so far, the language centres i have approached seem like converted houses, not schools, and i feel that the students are learning more about the english culture than study english.

Does anyone know of any language centre that offer proper lessons, not a dating service, and does anyone know if muslim families offer accommodation to students, and if there is any organization offering this.

The teenagers in question are not particually practising, but they dont drink, date, or gamble. It would be a shame for the sake of the want to learn english that they adopt these vices in uk, whilst away from parents prying eyes.

It is a big business here in turkey, where people are making serious money, but for me i wouldnt feel right about being part of this, unless there was some safety guard in place.

You need to e-mail all the centres , Cambridge have a lot of centres where families take students , actually living with a family is where they will learn most of their English . Ask them if they have muslim families who do this .

Its not an easy thing to do to take in a boy if you have girls, and of course the woman of the house would have to be covered all the time .
Other case scenario are non muslim houses , that can work if granny and grandad are the ones hosting a teenager.
They could go to the British council and attend a course there

The problem with cambridge is that it has become a hot spot for students, and with that comes the fitna. We had a student from saudi come over when we were last in uk, and he had a placement in Oxford intially, and that was terrible, so he transferred to cambridge. That was worse. The college houses apparently are rought with hidden cameras, and because the students there are foreign, they dont know the law etc. it goes un noticed. The only reason we know is that some family who takes in students in cambridge mentioned it to us, that it is local knowledge. Anyhow, coming back to the families, the student eats in their houses = not halal. For those coming from saudi they didnt seem to mind as they had a fatwa they clutched so tightly about meat from ahle kitab. The turkish dont hold such fatwas in high esteem, and only really eat halal.

Even if i email the centres they are good at advertising and getting the fees, but when you go to the centre it is nothing more than a house with a teacher, whom if you are lucky is english.

Anyone who lives in UK and has had any experience with a language school, can you PLEASE help...
