As Salam Walaikum,
Brothers and sisters I would like to know among the great Muslims of the past and present who are the people who inspire you the most and if possible why..
I am most inspired by Amir ul Muhmineen Umar bin Khattab(ra) and Saiful Islam Khalid bin Al Waleed(ra) among the sahaba. And among the Muslims of the past , Imam Abu Haneefah(Raheemallah), Saladin(Raheemallah) Shaheed Abdullah Azzam(Raheemallah), Ibn Tahimiyah(Raheemallah) and Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahab(Raheemallah)..
Walaikum As Salam.

walikum assalam
There are many personalities that could inspire us, but does it have to be a personality?
I'm inspired by the miracle of Allah who has made a group of Muslims in the West serious about their religion. When most of the world would've thought that the whole of second-, third-generation Muslims in the West will become distant from Islam, He raised a group, however small, that is firm on its religion. Alhamdulillah.

Among scholars, I am most inspired by Imam Ahmed, Ibn Taymiyah, Ibn Qayyim, Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab...
Now that I look at my list, it's basically a list of the consistently stereotyped "Salafi" figures, lol.
But I can't hide it. I am most inspired by them.

The stories of people like Ahmad bin Hanbal, ibn Taymiyya, Sayyid Qutb, Malcolm X and 'Ali al-Timimi always inspire me when I see how they defiantly stood up to the tyranny of their particular eras and were willing to pay the ultimate price (imprisonment or death).

My inspiration comes from those in history who made a real difference to this world and to their societies - whether it was a small difference or a legacy left behind (list not limited to scholars alone).

From the modern times: Khattab, A. Azzam, Anwar al-Awlaqi, Ali al-Tamimi in Aqida.
From sahaba: Abu Bakr (r), then Umar (r) then others.
From the Ulama of the past: Abdullah ibn Mubarak, Ibn Nuhas, Ibn Teymiya and his students.
All of them after the Prophet (s.a.w.) obviously.

I would also like to comment on how much I admire the mujahid brothers Sayfullah Champman, Mas'ud Khan, and Hammad 'Abd ar-Rahim:

And also the mujahid brother Dr. Sami al-Arian:

All of these noble brothers refused to sell out their religion when given the chance and have remained defiant in the face of the dhulm of the enemies of Allah. Their only "crime" was that they testified to the oneness of Allah and superiority of His Messenger (s.a.w).
May Allah release these brothers from captivity and elevate them to a lofty position in this world and in the next. Ameen.

Controversial it maybe, but the one time millionaire, son of a millionaire, now a Mujahid Amir Abu Abdillah (hafidhaullah) never fails to amaze me.

To clarify, I am more amazed by his journey to Islam away from the lure of the dunya, than his Jihad. Think of how many other Princes there are in the gulf who succumb to the glitz and glamour made available to them as a result of their wealth, but how many of them forsake it for even a normal pious life?
Better then this is what the Shaykh in question did, where he travelled to the lands of poverty and hardship to exalt Name of Allah.

Read this below incident which is one of the most inspiring stories that ive ever come across......comments on why it is inspiring will follow.....
Fariduddin Athar (rahimahullah) was once sitting in his shop when a faqeer entered and began to stare at the glass bottles lining the walls. Fariduddin asked him, "What is the matter?" He replied, "I was just wondering how your soul will leave your body when it is in so many bottles?" Fariduddin replied, "My soul will leave my body the same way your soul will leave your body!" When the faqeer heard this, he immediately lay down on the floor, draped his shawl over himself, and said, "My soul will leave like this: Laa ilaaha illa Allaah Muhammadun Rasoolullaah." When Fariduddin drew close and gently shook him, he realised that faqeer had indeed surrendered his life to his Lord.
SubhanAllaah........so many fine points may be derived from the above incident. But just bringing out one aspect from it : that an aarif(the one who has cognizance) is surely blessed with the Firaasah(piercing inner vision) to foresee his death. Most of us, if not all, atleast for myself i can say that i cant even determine a single day of mine.....lots of ups & downs....and here is someone from this ummah who actually gave up his soul at the time when he foresaw it, by the Permission of His Lord....what a great station is that!
To add to its strength, reminding all of you the story of the BOY, the Sorceror & the King as found in the explanation of Surah Al-Buruj in which the eeman of a single BOY has resulted in the martyrdom of an entire community wherein at the end the BOY himself demonstrates to the King as to how his soul can be taken.....
Besides, the death of Salman al-Farisee will also lead to the same conclusion.
And the lives of our salaf are filled with such accounts....
May Allaah grant to all of us the best ends.....
Was-Salaam

I am inspired by acts of people. I am inspired by actions of the prophets and Sahaba. By the actions of imprisoned scholars of the past and of the modern time. By martyrs, by acts of defiance, courage and resilience, by actions of Sabr.

After rightly guided caliphs (RA) and other companions (RA), Salahuddin Ayubi (rahimullah) remains my favourite personality.
