Assalaam alaikum wtwb,

Hope all are well insha'allah.

Watched a program related to this guy (please see link)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram_Bahadur_Bomjon

It recorded him for a number of days and nights looking for any sources of nourishment etc but nothing obvious was found...although he was shielded during the night ....

It could be argued they were feeding him them, but he didn't seem to flinch whether the temp dropped / increased or any instects might of be buzzing around....

The buddhists that were interviewed all put it down to secret meditation techniques and receiving some form of spiritial nourishment for mind and body...

Any thoughts / ideas to explain it...

Jazakallah Khairun

as salaamu alaykum,

interesting. Allaah knows best the explanation. Meditation can produce some strange things though. A lot of people who are in to meditation will state sometimes they come out of their body, or other times they have halucinations, other times their entire body is alive with energy.

Can't say that that has ever happened to me.

But then again there are different types of meditation.

Yes, ofcourse you got those who do mantras. The type of meditation i do is breath in through nose and out not contemplating anything. Just focusing on breathing and how my body feels. I try to leave thoughts etc.. Sometimes my body is very vibrant. I can feel energy tingling from my head to my stomach in my hands and feet and legs.

Whats the purpose of your meditations??

Is it a case of "simply" emptying your mind of all things ??
Please shed some further light on it insha'allah.

what benefits do you see - mind / body??

How does it sit with "wasting time" ...not saying you are ..:)

Look forward to your responses.

Emptying the mind - and concentrating on the One.
Spiritually satisfying.

Five minutes feel like an hour.

It is also refreshing.

Not time wasting at all.

The human body is impressive subhan Allah.

Anything outside that is sorcery and jinni-stuff.

"concentrating on the One"

Please explain....

What I meant was 'contemplating His creation'.

Trying to establish that spiritual link with the Creator.

Also - when one focuses on this they become more God Fearing.

Jzk Sis, was thinking this is what you were refering to ...

Its like yoga your taught how to breathe properly . A sister gave me this tool kit (she is a therapist) it's by Dr Andrew Weil, like you have back pain and you focus on it and imagine your breathing into the pain a sort of inner healing .
I haven't tried it all yet , but I think these things make you listen to your body.

as salaamu alaykum,

Meditation for me is very beneficial. As far as wasting time I see it as not that. The more you empty your mind the more (gaps in your thoughts) occur. The more the gaps between thoughts occur the more aware and focus you are. This is extremely beneficial in ibadah. Because when we make salah even though we concentrate we have our thoughts wandering in the back ground. But with meditation and consistancy a lot of times you will have spaces between your thoughts which is very liberating. We spend so much senseless energy on thinking about things that are not important.

Also dont mix up giving up thoughts to mean becoming stupid. It just means all the constant ramble that goes on in your head you shut off by trying to maintain awareness throughout the day. Also meditation (just simply breathing and leaving thoughts im not talking about strange satanic things) can be very benefial to healing yourself and also helping with your brain and changing brain waves for your benefit. Many people use meditations before going to sleep (nothing strange just breathing and leaving thoughts while flexing different muscles in your body and then releasing them).

Also the energy that becomes radiant (nothing sorcery like im talking about your actuall energy which every living thing has) starts to become vibrant. You actually feel vibration. I have felt this and experiance from time to time.

If you ever been in a life threatening situation like someone trying to attack you or some other terrifying thing you dont have time to think. Suddenly many times your thoughts leave you and your body reacts and you become totally aware. If you have experianced this you will also realize that even though whatever occured was terrifying you found a bit of peace in the awareness.

If you have any further questions let me know. I do not condone any of those mantra meditations that come from deviant sects (such as some sufi tariqas) and deviant religions (such as budhism hinduisn, daoism, etc). I simply do the meditation of leaving thoughts and focusing on the breath.

The more you focus on breaths the more you actually breath correctly. if you notice our breathing is automatic and unconcious but if you truely pay attention throughout the day and breath properly it will open up a whole new world to you in terms of your awareness and your health.

as salaamu alaykum,

Also check out ibn qayyim rahimahullah notes on Muraqabah (contemplation) mentioned in madarij as salikeen. Anwar awlaki hafidullah has that section translated. Thats the type of meditation the sister is talking about. I long to try this.

Jzk brother - May Allah (SWT) reward you.

Thats the kind of thing I wanted details on...perfect...

can you point me in the right direction for reading materials etc...

Btw, I would have never thought ( I hope i didn't imply) you would condone all the mantra / mumbo-jumbo meditation....

Just never seen it from an islamic perspective.
