We have been informed that Hajj the full one thats about 2 weeks is going to cost 50 thousand dirhams !!!! because the expansion thats been done through out this year has taken down so many smaller type accommodation, is this true ? 50 thousand is a lot of money you can use that to start building a small house here.

yeah... wow... Half have the haram has been reserved for the filthy rich who jump on the plane for Spain but accidentally end up in Makkah for Hajj.

Mashaa'Allah, certainly looks interesting. Although anything is possible nowdays, for some reason it seems to me that the change will be highly improbable. Reason being is that many hotels currently surround the haram, and now with Zam-Zam, and others, will they completely destruct one side and then further expand by re-building? I think I've made the full circle outside the haram, and I just remember seeing hotels, small houses, shops, building, and I can't remember if there was open space at any angle...

...Allah knows best.

All I know is that the prices have rocketed.

The small hotel that we were in for 'umrah gave us a quote of 20,000 SR for the last ten days of Ramadhan and they're not accepting requests for less days than that.

To be honest though I'm not sure about the planned layout of the hotels around the Haram.

It's difficult for me not to picture this (http://dotsunderconsonants.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/makkah-expansion-2.jpg) in my mind when I see the photo.

Akhi, they have no qualms completely destroying old buildings to rebuild, lol. There is currently a block which used to be full of hotels and shops, and now is a bunch of huge piles of rubble.

Abu Ilyas, that's way too much for a small hotel, bro. I believe travel agencies here are offering a much better rate during Ramadhan than that of KSA, although it seems that the opposite should be true. I'll look into it, Inshaa'Allah.

and now is a bunch of huge piles of rubble.

I see...

They're smashing down loads of hotels, shops, barbers, etc. Even when you're making the [disputed] sa'ee you can hear the bang and thud of cranes and diggers at work outside.

I hate them rich people coming there with their swimmingpools and gyms and jacuzis, why do they even go there? And even if they want to do Hajj they can go to a normal hotel and live modest for a while.

Most of the time of actual Hajj rituals is spent outside of Makkah. 'Umrah takes place at Haraam which is not more than 6 hours.

I hope all these domino highrises will provide affordable housing.

Hmmm...I found this picture on a number of other forums, looks like they maybe planning to put shades/umbrellas on the roof of the haram:

asSalaamu'alaykum

Na3am, I believe the shades are for sure, but I was told, that it will only cover the middle part of the Haram, where the Ka'bah is.

As for the comments about the hotels, shops and etc. it's happening already. I was there in the end of May and they already broke down many hotels and such in the back of the Haram on the side of Sa'ee.

The new current project will cover the area beginning at Masjid Al-Haram Street and Gazza on the east to Jabal Al-Kaaba Street and Shubaika Graveyard on the west. It will also run through Abu Sufyan Street, Raquba, Abdullah ibn Zubair Street, Shamiya, Jabal Hindi, Khaled ibn Walid Street and Shubaika reaching Jabal Kaaba Street,
