Israeli cabinet has approved a plan to build a new city for Arab citizens in a move that would further isolate Israel's Arab population.
Israel's interior minister Merit Sheetrit has proposed the construction of the new city and his proposal was approved by the Israeli cabinet on Sunday.
It is the first housing project of its kind since the creation of the Israel in 1948.
Israel has a population of more than seven million people, including 1.2 million Arabs most of whom live in villages in the north that lack modern infrastructure and adequate facilities for living, AFP reported.
Many Israeli Arabs are of the opinion that the measure is not aimed at solving the housing crisis in Israel, but a clear effort to further segregate Israel's Arab minority from its majority of Jews.
