View Full Version : Moderation abuse

I would like to open this thread to formally protest against lowly practice of moderators to change the text that appears in every single post of a singled out user under his name in the left corner of the post.

I understand when they use this feature to indicate that someone is (already) banned, so users who are offended by the banned user are pacified, but using the moderator power to label opponents in this way is very lowly and unbefitting the honored title of a Muslim brothers.

I suggest that moderators immediately change all the changed user descriptions that appear in their posts back to original and apologize for their actions.

Isnt it good that we know who is banned?

I am not against "banned". Putting "banned" is not abuse.

I am against changing other types of descriptions under user names. For example, Youseff al-Khattab complained about someone changing his description.

I agree with Abu Abdallah al-Bulghari.

banned is automatically put next to the name of any user who is banned, other than can you provide any evidence for your accusation, the one with yousseff khattab wasnt the doing of any moderator as far as i know

Exactly. This user is on my ignore list, but I still disagree that moderators should put labels in their user descriptions.

Ok. That is probably not abuse, though I would still prefer cleaner action like proposition to ban in 3 days unless requested repentance is posted in the required format and then banning.

Did Salahudeen put "Neo-con" in his user description himself?

Well, then he will be back with the same attitude. We have been putting up with him for a long time and I don't think 3 days or even 3 months ban will do. We don't want to ban him permanently in hope that one day he will change.

So far the following has been confirmed:

1. Mods have technical means to change user description.
2. It has been done in the past w/ intentions of humiliation of the person.

The other problem I have w/ this is that this description is applied to all posts of the user in the past so no matter how "good" the user was before he "went bad" all of his posts will be derogatorily labeled.

1. Mods have technical means to change user description.

This is obvious to anyone.

2. It has been done in the past w/ intentions of humiliation of the person.

Only once in an exceptional case. You suggest banning the person and we think he should be punished in a different manner.

None of the mods have abused their powers.

The other problem I have w/ this is that this description is applied to all posts of the user in the past so no matter how "good" the user was before he "went bad" all of his posts will be derogatorily labeled.

With respect to the person his question, most of his posts are bad, anyway. But there is a very easy way getting rid of it... Just do the honourable thing and apologise to the sister.

If he doesn't I believe he deserves that title (or worse) underneath his username.

I think we should be directing our efforts at getting the person to apologise rather than questioning the punishment he deserves.

None of the mods have abused their powers only 1 admin being you! we should make Magoo Ameer of the Forum! or you should make an special account arranging all your Adminish bussines and use Abu Zubayr as a normal member to discuss etc. cause anyone discussing you will be in a disadvantage. some ppl are just addicted to power.

This is weird though, a normal members can only do 5 tags and see this thread:

http://forums.islamicawakening.com/showthread.php?t=15444&page=14

and the tags

abdullah faisal, abu qatada, extremism, jewish, khawarij, modernist-takfiris, takfeer, yousef al khattab

Something tells me that if he woudnt be in a fight with Abu Zubayr these extra tags woudnt appear no?
