A dear brother of mine recently told me the story of an Iraqi scholar by the name of Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Badri (rahimahullah), who was the Imam of a masjid in Baghdad. The brother explained to me that Sh. al-Badri was a harsh critic of the Ba'ath government and was among the first scholars to be executed by the Ba'ath regime in the mid-1970's for his speaking against them. I tried to find some more information on him, but alas there is very little. According to one Kurdish member (http://www.khilafah.com/index.php/activism/middle-east/57-middle-east/3436-interview-with-member-of-hizb-ut-tahrir-in-iraq) of Hizb at-Tahrir al-Islamiyya he (Sh. al-Badri) was affiliated with that organization:
The first alim who can be remembered was Sheikh Abdul-Aziz al-Badri who was killed by the oppressive baathist regime and he was also from the shabab of Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Does anyone know anything more about this great scholar and Muslim hero who, like Sayyid Qutb (rahimahullah) stood firm upon the truth in the face of tyranny?

Assalamu alaykum,
There are quite a lot of articles and things availble on him in Arabic. I can give you the links of a few and insha'Allah I'll try to translate them later when I get the time. The man is quite known for calling the ulamaa' to ask Jamal Abdul Nasir to stop the execution of Sayid Qutb and for asking for unity with the shi'ah (HT?).

His name is Abdul-Aziz bin Abdul-Lateef al-Badri, he was born in Baghdad in 1929, but he is originally from Saamaraa' he studied under some scholars of Baghdad like Amjad az-Zahaawi, Muhammad al-Qazlaji and Shaykh Abdul-Qaadir al-Khateeb and some others, he finished his studies and became Imaam in the Soor Masjid in 1949 and the Khafafeen mosque in 1950 and then to different Masjids in Baghdad.
He was famous for being one of the top shots of the Tahrir party in Iraq, and was always attacking the Iraqi leader, Abdul-Kareem Qaasim (Communist leader) in his speeches, when Abdul-Kareem ordered some people of the army to be executed such as Naazim at-Tabqajli, Al-Badri got angry and led demonstrations against Abdul-Kareem Qaasim, in which more then 40.000 people participated.he also declared the supporters of communism and AbdulKareem Qasim to be kuffaar and to be faught so the goverment placed house-arrest on him from 2 /12/ 1959ใก to 2/12/1960ใก when that was over he did not stop and continued so they arrested him and he was in jail from 7/8/1961ใก to 4/12/1961ใก when he was released because of a general pardon for all political prisoners.
he was arrested again in the time of Iraqi president Ahmad Hassan al-Bakr, he was kidnapped at night when he was heading towards his house and took him to a prison where they tortured him and cut some parts of his body, its said that they also cut his tongue. he died in jail year 1969ใก after 17 days of his death they left his body in front of his house and told his family that he died of an heart attack and they ordered them to burry him with revealing it (his burial) but word got around so his body was taken to the Abu Haneefah mosque where they could pray for him, they all saw the effect of the torture he endured in jail on his body, he died before his 40's. the Shaykh rahimahullah is buried in Al-`Adhamiyah.
a lot of Ullemaa told him when he was in jail that he should just stop and give up and that Islam had nothing to do with politics so he wrote a book named al-Islaam bayn al-3ulamaa wal Hukaam, meaning Islam between the Scholars and the Rulers refuting them..
this is all what I can translate tonight I'm dead tired lol, just cause you're on my friends list lol,. I translated the first link the one from Wikipedia but I did skip some parts.
