In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, Most Gracious

Muslim Solidarity Iftaar at HMP Belmarsh

An event to remember Muslim prisoners in the UK and abroad

7 years after 9/11, the number of Muslims in Western prisons continues to soar. Many of these Muslims are not behind bars due their involvement in drug related crime, violence or hooliganism, but are instead prisoners of conscience- prisoners whose only crime has been to voice an opinion. They have either been found guilty by association or are languishing behind bars through laws that permit indefinite detention.

Other Muslim prisoners have either been subjected to torture and abuse in legal anomalies such as Camp X-Ray, or have disappeared altogether, only to resurface in Gulags of the modern world. All these prisoners have one thing in common- they have all been robbed of their human rights.

This Iftaar has been arranged to remember the plight of these prisoners and their families.

Guest Speakers:

Mozzam Begg
Yvonne Ridley
Uthman Lateef
And others

Quran Recitation and Dua Qunoot

Statements from representatives of Detainees and Muslim Prisoners

MashAllah!!! What a fantastic event!

May Allah swt reward the organisers, the participants, speakers and everyone who attended and those who wanted to but couldnt attend!

The event started a bit late, but subhanAllah a truly amazing evening.

Arrangements for an outdoor event were fantastic.

Started off with Quran Recitation from Uthman (Abu Hamza's son)

Asr Salah led by Brother Abu Mujahid Usman Lateef - followed by Dua.

The Brother then gave a fantastic lecture.

This was followed by a speech from a Brother from Lewisham Mosque.

We then had a talk by Yvonne Ridley on Sister Aafia Siddiqui.

Brother Munir the Director of HHugs then spoke.

A brother from MPSG (The Muslim Prisoner Support Group) read out a militant poem by Sheikh Abu Hamza, who is still incarcerated within Belmarsh.

Time for Opening the fast arrived!

Salah led by Brother Moussa Zemmour (Ex-Guantanmo detainee) Followed by Qunoot.

Moazzam arrived late, but gave a beneficial lecture and reminder.

I cannot wait for the following years - I honestly advise all brothers and sisters to make every sincere effort to attend next year and make this a date for your diaries.

I know the event was recorded, but can't recall seeing any pictures being taken. Let me ask if some stills from the video can be uploaded. I think they may try and put some of the talks onto the MPSG website once its back up inshAllah.
