Does the notion of jarh wa tadeel/chains of narrators really exist even today? Or did it end during the end of the period of the salaf?
Surely it can only apply to those who narrated a hadith. Yet the 'madkhali's' apply it to their men amongst their modern dawah:
Abu Maryam Abdul-Hakeem, who used to reside in Makkah and frequented the Shaykhs lessons, said to me that Shaykh Rabee` said, having heard this from him directly, that al-Munajjid is from the "Kibaar of the Qutubiyyah".
The above is a real life example of what they write!
Please do not turn this into madhkali vs non madhkali's.
My questions are in the opening of this topic. So does narrator crediting/discrediting & chains of reporters apply only to hadith or does it apply also to modern day people?
