assalam alaykum,

one of my friends is going to saudi soon and she said that i can ask her for books from there. my main interest are tafsir/uloom al-quran, i was going to ask for eg. "aysar al-tafasir" (very expensive where i found it, over £20) but then again i'd rather get something that is special and not easy to get from uk...

any suggestions?

مشاہر القیامہ

محمد خورشید السلفی

The writer is an Indian. I have read the Urdu translation that he did himself. The book is easily one of the best texts I ever read on the Hereafter. The way it teaches you to reflect on some of the Quranic verses and Hadiths is awesome. He has made it into a masterpiece by taking from the best works on this issue e.g. Sayyid Qutb's writings.

Yep... I had used an Urdu font originally which gives me the idea that the Administrators should consider installing support for them.

I don't know your particular interests, but I would highly recommend the book I am going through at the moment, 'Awdat al-Hijab by Muhammad Isma'il. It's first volume is a must read for all of us in England in light of the current climate. (It's three vol)

If I am not mistaken Al-Firdous in London translated that.

Why is it a good book BTW - please do elaborate...

assalamu alaykum

I reccomend al-Wahidi's al-Wajeez if you don't have it. It's one of the best mukhtasar tafsirs out there and Wahidi's status in the field is known. His al-Waseet is a good intermediate Tafsir.

Al-Tahrir wal-Tanwir is a must have if you don't have it. Amazing work. Qawa'id al-Tadabbur al-Amthal by Sh. Abdur Rahman Habannaka al-Maydani. It's a list of 40 Qawa'id for Tadabbur. His tafsir as well is worth checking out. I forget its title, Ma'arij al-Tafakkur. It is incomplete but he was covering surahs in order of revelation. That way, every time a verse comes up on a topic covered on an earlier surah, he examines how the Qur'an's treatment of that subject gradually develops over time. His Tafsir was an attempt to implement his work on Qawa'id al-Tadabbur. His tafsir is incomplete however. He did all of the Makkan surahs and some Madinan. I do not have actually have his Tafsir but have an opportunity to look it over. I have his book on Qawa'id al-Tadabbur and find it a one of a kind work.

There is also a magazine 'mujallah' published by the Ash-Shatibi institute and is concerned with uloom al-quran - there are four so far and they are really excellent and well worth it for just 20 riyals each...

I'm currently reading مفاتح تدبر القرآن والنجاح في الحياة by Dr. Khalid ibn 'Abd al-Kareem al-Laahim (one of the professors at Imam university - teaches 'Uloom al-Qur'an). The book makes an excellent read if you're interested in tadabbur and seeking success etc (and it's not that big so would be easy to carry).

There are a few risalaat/research mentioned here and there online which sound really good but I'm not sure if they've been published - check out the 'uloom al-Qur'an section on Multaqa insha'Allah, I've come across some stuff there which you'll find interesting.

I have read this book, found here:

A good read, but Sh. al-Maydani's book is still a must read.
