May allah shower his mercy on us in this blessed month...ameen

Im a little confused on the meaning of the night prayer in ramadhan. From what i heard, in ramadhan the night prayer is called thrawih and out of ramadhan its tahajud. Recently i came across a brother who told me that there is tahajud in ramadhan. It is the last part of the night whereas thravih is straight after isha. Could someone enlighten me on this please.

Also my local mosque is hanafi and pray witr different to the way i pray. They do two taslims whereas i do one. After the 20rakah thravih should i leave and pray witr at home?

Lastly, if there is tahajud in ramadhan and as witr should be the last prayer of the night would it be better for me to finish thravih with imam, leave witr out, pray tahajud at home and finish with witr? Like the hadith states there are no two witrs in one night. (i will do this only if i am going to pray tahajud)

jazakallahire

jazakallahu khair, good questions,

also, i heard someone say that rasoolullah sallallahu alyhe wasallam used to only pray 11 raka'at (taraweeh) in ramadan.

he said if you pray taraweeh and later qaiyam al lail at night, it is against the sunnah?

how correct is that?

I dont know if this audio will answer all your questions but its interesting as the speaker talks about whether taraweeh should be prayed 8 or 20 rakah's.

Without a doubt I am no authority here, but it just happens to be that I got to read this first :)

In the Hanbali-school, if the person wants to pray tahajjud after tarawih then he should still finish the whole tarawih including the witr with the imam. However, when the imam makes taslim from the witr he should get up and make one more rak'a so that this prayer that he just performed wouldn't be an odd number of raka'at i.e witr. Then he should do his witr after the tahajjud he is to perform.

And ofcourse one should not leave finishing with the imam just because he prays witr differently. Following a certain madhab in fiqh doesn't mean that all others madahib are unacceptable to you or that it is forbidden for you to leave your madhab in issues. In certain circles opposing the known method also causes problems in brotherhood so doing it their way will save the Umma from this.

Yes i have heard that from someone aswel that it is better to keep unity and brotherhood even in matters of fiqh. Also thier fatwa or issue on fiqh is backed on evidence anyway.
Akhi have you get any good links where i could learn more about hanbali fiqh?

Also just a point to note if i do want to end the witr with the hanafi imam should i in the 3rd rakah read qanoot like they do? for instance i pray 3 rakah with one tasleem in the 3rd after bowing i would raise my hands in a dua posture and read qanoot. As you must be aware hanafis do rafayadien and do the dua qanoot.

So like i said if i want to end the witr with the imam (thats because i am not going to pray tahajud) what would be best to do?

Do as they do and you have done well insha-Allah.
