WRITE TO THE FORGOTTEN BPP’S OF BRITAIN’S GUANTANAMO (http://www.cageprisoners.com/articles.php?aid=2989)
Prisoner LL4587 is a Tunisian national who has tried, on at least two occasions, to commit suicide with a blade. Extremely isolated and in desperate need of support, his neck and the veins of his forearms bear red scars. He has suffered from seizures inside his cell and psychiatric reports have been prepared. He is just one of Britain’s political prisoners (BPP’s), who are being detained in British prisons, Belmarsh and Woodhill, who desperately want people to communicate with them and who Cageprisoners.com are urging you to write to.
Many of these BPP’s have no family members in the UK who can write to them. A number of them, like Prisoner LL4587, have attempted to harm themselves. In one case, two detainees were seeking permission from scholars to commit suicide until they began to receive letters from the public, which renewed their desire and motivation to live.
Such letter writing campaign's have proved to be hugely successful - with the 8 Belmarsh detainees receiving 60 letters each in the first week of announcing the campaign, and British political prisoner Babar Ahmad receiving over 50 letters in his first week in prison. We urge you all to make it a regular practice to write to at least one prisoner a week and to encourage all your family members and friends to do the same. Give hope to a prisoner for whom half an hour is like half a year.

WAITING FOR MOAZZAM… (http://www.cageprisoners.com/interviews.php?aid=3025)
“It worried me, him being with the Americans, especially after what I saw recently in the newspapers about the abuse in the Abu Gharib prison. Those were American guards. Is it happening in Guantanamo Bay, to my husband too?"
In the first issue of the new Al-Istiqaamah (http://al-istiqaamah.com)newsletter, Umm ‘Uthman interviews Zaynab, the wife of Moazzam Begg, who has been held in Guantanamo for over two years. Upon meeting Zaynab, Umm ‘Uthman was amazed by the strength of her resolve not to wallow in self-pity, and how light-hearted she appeared. At times during the interview however, she caught a glimpse of just how distressing the situation is for her, and indeed for all of the families of the detainees.

I have also just finished reading the 115-page document Detention in Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay compiled by Birnberg Pierce & Partners, lawyers for the three British citizens released from Guantanamo Bay without charge in March. Their accounts of detention are horrifyingly similar to the conditions in Goli Otok. In both cases, the denial of a trial, and a specified date of release added to the physical torture the three endured.

Two Accused US Born Suspects - One Gets 20 Years, Other May Go Free (http://www.cageprisoners.com/articles.php?aid=2987)
Yaser Hamdi and John Walker Lindh were both accused of fighting for the Taliban and against the United States. They were both captured in Afghanistan. They're both U.S. citizens. Despite the similarities, Lindh is serving 20 years in prison while Hamdi may go free soon, after about three years behind bars. That raises the question: Why the huge difference in the fate of these two men?
