View Full Version : Dealings between cousins...

Assalaamu alaykum,
I know the general rule is that when it comes to talking with non-mahrams of the opposite gender, it's not allowed unless there is a need for it.
Take a family in which all the cousins either wear hijaab or niqaab, so that no one is exposing anything to a non-mahram. In gatherings, all the grandparents, uncles/aunts and cousins may sit in the same room. Sometimes they sit in small groups, and other times they sit in a large circle and joke with each other in a way that is not provocative. Also to note is that the mahram of each and every woman is there as well. The point in question is not the satar, but rather the amount of conversation and socialization allowed in this setting.
The thing I need to know from anyone who can shed light on the matter is: Is there anything from the mindset of the salaf that would relax the rules a bit between close blood relatives, or is it simply a mahram/non-mahram deal? How does an in-law deal with spouse's siblings and first cousins as well?
My guess is that the rule is to take the black-white approach regarding mixing with the opposite gender, but I'd like to know in case people in the sort of family that I've described above start to slip into thinking that there is a mahram-close relative-nonmahram categorization based on the allowances that some latter day scholars from the khalaf have made.
Jazaakumullahu khayran for any answers.

Assalamu Aliakum. I would also appreciate answers to ibnislam' questions. In my family just because I wear a 'headscarf' in front of my first cousins (whom I could marry) I'm seen as 'too religious'

Better ask a mufti about it. You can also search sites like islamqa. I have been in this kind of family and most of the time mixing like this also causes lots of fitna and allah knows best. I would say ask a mufti.
Jazakallah Khair

Assalaamu alaykum,
There is a teacher who has a lot of discussions about the Tafseer, and she claims that there is a hadeeth that the Prophet(S) had a cousin who never covered her face in front of him.
Does anyone here know the existence/authenticity/sharh of this hadeeth? It is causing doubts among some of the sisters who believe that niqaab is waajib, as they're being taught that the requirements for hijaab are eased a little around in-laws/cousins/frequent guests of a woman's father.
I've never heard this opinion advocated among those who believe that niqaab is waajib and was wondering if anyone heard similarly?

MY GOD...you create a difficult life for yourself..
This thread just shows why Islam and muslims have so much difficulties in adapting to western life style and move on, when muslims choose to live in the west.
You REALLY got a problem with the opposite sex don't you WHAT are you so afraid of  ....
Abuz Zubair just created a thread in "Islam in General" called "Our future" where he ask how muslims in the west can be better accepted.
If the matter described in this thread are also a issue for muslims in the west, you could begin to accept that men and women are attracted to each other, AND THAT IS OK....:) don't be so afraid of Allah, and all kind of dooms-day Mullahs, they just want to control you.

And who told you that we do NOT accept that men and women are attracted to each other and that this is OK? From where you got that? This is how human beings are created and considering it not OK would be akin to insulting the one who created them. *shakes his head*

Mika, I'm going to hold my breath in wait, until the glorious day finally arrives when you say: "You barbaric Muslims! How do you expect to live in the West, when you don't commit incest?!"
lol, I can't take you seriously, except as a punch line.
...and you make a damn good punch line.

Hi muhaqiq
Some muslims are barbaric, some non muslims are barbaric, that’s not my point, my point is that your ideology Islam and your god Allah are outdated and barbaric, and that this fact create the difficult life you and your fellow muslims seems to have in this world.
Talking about barbaric, just look at what good old Allah made these muslim doctors (normally doctors are supposed to save lives...) do in the UK just a few days ago....those people were completely polluted and brainwashed with Islam.
Thanks muhaqiq, I like my punch line myself...and by the way, I certainly take you seriously muhaqiq;)

Islam is free of what these people did. Study Islamic law, and you will see that, regardless of your bias.
Oh, and btw I still can't take seriously anything you say. Every time you write anything, it can only remind me of incest.
lol, people sould pay you to tour the Muslim world, preaching your stupidity. Once you mention incest, they'll see straight through you, and thank Allah for delivering from kufr.

as far as i recall the mass murderer of the U.K was a Dr non-muslim, is that not the case? Dr Shipman? Maybe you both believe in the same thing, thus using your own logic your as murdrous and barbaric and disgusting as him no?
Regarding being outdated etc, can you tell us just how the nature of man and woman has evolved throughout time that they constantly need new laws to suit their ever-changing disposition?

Can nobody just answer the question that ibnislam asked instead of replying to that attentionseeker mika. Can't there be a single thread were people don't go off-topic?
