assalamualaykum,

I ahve heard this hadeeth being mentioned:

"If one of you lost something or needs help while in an open land, then let him say: "O slaves of Allah, help me."

Apparently it refers to calling out to the angels for help. I have heard people say the hadeeth is not weak, can someone please clarify?

akhi if people do this to call out to the angels, then this is shirk, nay major shirk that can expell you from islam, because it is not permisable to call out to anyother one except Allah thinking that he can hear you. Even if you were in a room and you wisperd the name of your next door neighber and you thought he could hear you then this is shirk, because you are ascribing attributes to him that only Allah posseses i.e, The all hearing.

Also if you follow the opinion that ignorence doesnt count as a valid excuse for major shirk, then this isnt good knews for you.;)

Jazaakallahu khair akhi. I am aware of this. I know that it is major shirk and i would never do such a thing. Yet some deviants try to use this hadeeth to say we are wrong. I want to know what is the status of this hadeeth in terms of its isnaad in order that i can respond to them.

The hadeeth is disputed over its authenticity, and even if we say it is authentic, all it states is calling upon the angels who are present and alive to help.

As we said, there is nothing wrong with seeking help from someone alive and present.

Having said that, such an odd narration is not a match to the well known famous narration that serves as one of the main foundations of faith:

إذا سألت فاسأل الله

If you ask, then ask only of Allah...

This is why some scholars said that it is makruh to ask the creation for even those things that are well within their capacity, such as to bring a glass of water, etc. This is the pinnacle of tawheed: absolute tawakkul on Allah.
