part-1
The word Taaghoot is general. So everything that is worshipped besides Allaah, while being pleased with this worship – whether it is something worshipped, someone followed, or someone obeyed in the absence of obedience to Allaah and His Messenger, then that is considered Taaghoot. The Tawaagheet (pl. of Taaghoot) are many, but their heads are five:
The First: The Devil who calls the people to worship other than Allaah. The proof for this is Allaah’s saying: “Did I not command you O children of Aadam, that you should not . Verily, he is a plain enemy to you.” [Surah YaaSeen: 60] comment:And we can see the shaytaan being worshipped in those churches in the united states that were established specifically for the worship of iblees and we can also see this in what is known as "heavy metal" music where the devil is clearly called upon and worshippped besides allah .We also see this worship of iblees done well-known group situated in'iraaq called the yazeediyoon who worship the shaytaan out of fear that he will harm them.
The Second: The tyrannical and oppressive ruler who changes Allaah’s rulings. The proof for this is Allaah’s saying: “Have you not seen those (hypocrites) who claim to believe in that which has been revealed to you, and that which was revealed before you, and they wish to go for judgement (in their disputes) to the Taaghoot, when they have been ordered to reject them? But the Devil wishes to lead them far astray.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 60]
comment:Those who rulers who legislate laws and make halaal haraam and vice versa are definitely from the tawaagheet. This type of taaghoot also appplies to those "scholars" that legislate in the deen and change aspects of the sharee'ah like the concept jihaad and al-walaa' wal-baraa'and the issue of the jizyah and try to water it down to please the ruler or to please the jews and christians like is the case with attantaawee of egypt. This also applies to those who enter into parliament and legislate laws that clealry contradict the book and the sunnah whether they are secualrist or attribute themselves to islaamic da'wah they are all tawaagheet. The Third: The one who judges by other than what Allaah has revealed, and the proof for this is Allaah’s saying: “And whoever does not judge by what Allaah has revealed, then they are the disbelievers.” [Surah Al-Maa’idah: 44]
comment:like the rulers of today who rule their countries by secualr law and those who obey the ruler in this act of kufr like the judges in the secular courts for all them are partners in the crime of judging by other tahn the book and sunnah and they are all tawaagheet The Fourth: The one who claims to have knowledge of the Unseen, apart from Allaah. The proof for this is Allaah’s saying: “He alone is the All-Knower of the Unseen, and He does not disclose His Unseen matters to anyone.” [Surah Al-Jinn: 26-27] And He says: “And with Him lie the keys to the Unseen, no one knows them but He. And He knows whatever there is in the land and in the sea; not a leaf falls except that He knows about it. There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything fresh or dry, but that it is written in a Clear Record.” [Surah Al-Ana’aam: 59]
comment:we find this with the soothsayers and all those who calim to know the future of something from the unseen for to calim this is to calim aruboobeeyah and whoever claims this is a kaafir The Fifth: The one who is worshipped apart from Allaah, while being pleased with being worshipped. The proof for this is Allaah’s saying: “And whoever amongst them says: ‘Verily, I am a God besides Him (Allaah)’, then this person’s recompense will be the Hellfire. That is the way we recompense the wrongdoers.” [Surah Al-Anbiyaa: 29]
comments:An example of this are the heads of the modern day soofee orders who order their followers to prostate to them and to call upon him when they are in need.An example of this is the head of the ismaa'eeli group will literally allows his followers to worship and refer to him a living god!!!!!!Another example of are those soofee leaders that tell their followers to drink their urine and eat their excriment and all this to draw closer to allah!!!!!!(wal'iyaathu billah)note this type doesnt apply to the righteous that were and are still being worshipped besides allah and are not pleased with it like the prophets and messengers and 'righteous 'ulamaa, so it isnt permissible to refer to them as tawaagheet.wabillahi tawfeeq part-2
as-salaamu alaikum
As i mentioned in the post those who were and still are worshipped but werent pleased with this are not tawaagheet. An example of this are those who worship ali ibn abee taalib from the extreme raafithah so in this case we know that ali(may allah be pleased with him) was a caller to tawheed and from the 'ulamaa of tawheed and from the companions of muahmmad(alaihisalam) so he definitely wasnt pleased with this to the extent that he dug a ditch and burned those who claimed for him ulooheeyah.S ali and easa ibnu maryam and other righteous indivisuals cannot be called a tawagheet. As for the one who said that easa can be considered a taaghoot then this is incorrect and i heard abu usaama say this in a lecture and in anycase he was incorrect. So in conclusion the worshipped are 2 types
1-humans
2-animals and solid objects(wood,stone..etc) as forthe first type to be called a taaghoot being pleased with this worship is a conditon. As for the second then it is to be called a taaghoot because animals and solid objects cannot be pleased for they are "ghairu 'aaqil"they lack reasoning".However one can say that the action of worshipping easa is a taaghoot but not easa himself .
i wrote this quickly so i hope its clear wassalam
part-3

one might ask the following question
what is the diffrence between the oppressive tyranical ruler who replaces the laws of allah and the ruler who merely judges by other than what allah has revealed??
ans:the first taaghoot is the ruler who literally legislates the law whether the source was his own hawaa or whther it was taken from various external sources like the tawrah or the laws of hamuraabi or napoleons law or roman law. This taaghoot can also include those who are not necessarily rulers like the 'evil 'ulamaa and those parliamentarians who take part in legislation. The second taaghoot is the judge or ruler who implements laws and acts upon it and isnt considered a mushari'(legislator)
note:both these actions(legislation and judgement) can at times be found in one man like the rulers of the islamic lands today for they are practically the legislators and take part in the implementation of these laws.Another point that wasnt mentioned in the post was that the secular law itself can be considered a taaghoot.
the permanent commitee said when asked about the definition of the term taaqghoot "And from this it is clear that the man-made systems that were made in order to be judged to and(mudaahaat) to compete with the legislation of allah enters into the meaning of taaghoot (fatawa of the permanent commiteee vol-1 pg784)
and shaikh muhammad haamid alfaqee has some kalaam similar to the commitee's.wabillahittawfeeq. wassalamu alaikum
