The Sahaba in the Quraan
And when it is said to them (hypocrites): "Believe as the people have believed," they say: "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?" Verily, they are the fools, but they know not. (Al-Baqarah 2:13)
The tafseer of the word “people” is Sahaba. So Allaah is commanding the people to believe as the sahaba have believed. Look up the above verse in the Tafseer of Ibn Katheer--rather . . . give me a sec. You can find it in volume one on page 134 of the Tafseer ibn Katheer by Dar-us-Salaam: a must have for those who attach themselves to knowledge.
Also based on the above mentioned verse, those who refuse to accept this religion according to the understanding of the Sahaba submitting to it in belief, speech, and in action then he is a foolish hypocrite.
You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin the good and forbid the evil and you believe in Allaah. And had the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al-Fâsiqűn (Aali Imran 3:110)
According to the hadeeth, the generation of the Messenger is the best generation since Aadam. Meaning, the generation of the sahaba is better than Aadam and his people, Noah and his people, Moses and his people ECT.
And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers' way. We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell - what an evil destination. (An-Nisa 4:115)
Allaah, in this verse, has attached the ijmaah (consensus) of the Sahaba and the obedience to The Messenger.
And the first to embrace Islâm of the Muhâjirűn (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansâr (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhâjirűn) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allâh is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success. (At-Tawbah 9:100)
This ayat is clear, it is not necessary to elaborate.
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allâh, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and falling down prostrate (in prayer), seeking Bounty from Allâh and (His) Good Pleasure. The mark of them (i.e. of their Faith) is on their faces (foreheads) from the traces of (their) prostration (during prayers). This is their description in the Taurât (Torah). But their description in the Injeel (Gospel) is like a (sown) seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong, it then becomes thick, and it stands straight on its stem, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allâh has promised those among them who believe (i.e. all those who follow Islâmic Monotheism, the religion of Prophet Muhammad SAW till the Day of Resurrection) and do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward (i.e. Paradise). (Al-Fath 48:29)
Imaam Ash’Shafa’ee said in commentary on this verse, Allaah has praised the Sahaba in the Torah, in the Psalms, in the New Testament, and in the Quraan. He also said (let me double check this point) Allaah also cursed the Jew in all of the above mentioned books.
Imaam Maalik said, based on the above verse, if you hate the Sahaba then you are a disbeliever—“. . . that He may enrage the disbelievers with them”—them obliviously referring to the Sahaba.
And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful. (Al-Hashr 59:10)
Aaisha said commenting on the above verse, that it is not permissible to say anything evil about the companions of The Messenger, rather we have been commanded to ask Allaah to have mercy on them (which is a refutation of the shi'ah and others. . .).
Sufyaan Uyanah said, whoever speaks about one of the companions of The Messenger (in an evil, dishonorable way), then he has disbelieved.
