assalamu alaikum wr wb
been AGES since i been here, bout 3 or 4 months i guess...hope u all out there r good insha'allah ta'ala.
i got some heavy duty help i need. im involved in a serious discussion with a fellow muslim about ADULTERY and its punishment in islam. the person is saying that there is NO evidence at all from the quran that adultery is punishable by death in islam......he says that the only mention is illegal sexual intercourse, zina, which is not distinguished by not married or married, and the lashings.....so this death for adultery thing is only found in hadeeth. and any hadeeth that contradicts the quran, even if sahih, is not accepted.

my only reply so far has been to say that, look, there has been more or less total consensus on the issue that adultery in islam is punishable by death, as this was the way of the first 4 caliphs of islam and all the major scholars....so i said that unanimity/consensus in islam is proof of haq cuz muhammad saws said in a narration that "my nation will not unite upon misguidance", so i was thinking that this alone should prove the fact that ijmaa is proof of being right.

dang, looks like im about to change my opinion for the first time in my life on something in islam, i always thought that death was the punishment for adultery in islam.

basically, is there anyone out there who can show me any evidence, before i change my belief and my position......cuz changing is kinda hard for me...LOL....i always thought i was upon real true tawheed and salafiyyah......ok its not that deep an aqeedah issue, but its still somethin i never done, changing my mind .........

can any1 help me out???? any proofs that death is indeed the punishment for adultery in islam?....so far nothing in quran....

would appreciate any replies......i got a few days till i get back to the person.

jazakhallah khair....

Wa alaykumusalam

If its in the hadeeth akhi we take it , the Sunnah explains the Quran.

It says in the Quran that we pay Zakat but not how much and for that we turn to the sunnah , same with praying its mentioned in the Quran that we pray but we again we turn to the Sunnah . Is this person that your speaking with a Quraniyoon becareful.

As for your own knowledge and help in replying to this person ( anyone who negates the importance of the sunnah is far away from the path of Islam ) go to the above link and listen to Yassir Qadi go through these points in his usool al hadith series.

very good call, i just found out that this person is indeed a quranite, rejector of narrations. the thing is, i also thought that when i first started speaking to him, so i asked him do u reject narrations, and he told me only ones that contradict the quran, but now i find this out, that they reject narrations of muhammad saws IN PRINCIPLE. so now the conversation has changed from adultery to upholding the sunnah..........

wallah, one of the things i noticed with deviants is that they r always devious and mischeivious. he lied to me in the first place bout ahadeeth. deviants always got some angle to work to prove their point. they can never just come openly. its like i get the feeling its more important for them to prove their deviant view rather than be upon truth. reminds me of the countless times allah swt says in the quran that they know they r wrong, but follow their desires.

i mean for example, myself, if i know i am wrong, i will accept it and be happy in doing so, cuz i know then that i would be upon truth...it is more important for me to be upon sirat al mustaqeem than to hold on to some self egotistical view . but these deviants, wallah im sure they have a death wish,,,its like their own views r more important than what is truth, even if they blatantly know themselves to be wrong.

anyways, this one i can deal with,, why the sunnah and ahadeeth is also a cornerstone of our belief. hehe, ill come back to adultery issue later.

jazakhallah for yasir qadhi link. he one of my favourite sheikhs for deeni ilm.
