Assalamu alaikum.....

To all brothers & sisters who can add light to the following topic are most welcome to come forward with your contributions.

A brother of mine insisted that the Sunnah is to "PLUCK THE ARMPIT HAIR BY HAND AND NOT TO SHAVE IT."

A dictatum as such made me enquire the subject and this is what i found:

Question:
Is it OK to shave armpit hairs with a razor?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

It is permitted, because the object is to remove the hair, whether by plucking, shaving or some other method. Plucking is better, if one can manage it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The fitrah is five things: circumcision, trimming the moustache, cutting the nails, plucking the armpit hairs and shaving the pubic hairs.” (Agreed upon).

Now the hadees has clearly stated PLUCKING for the armpit hair while SHAVING for the pubic hair which is teaching us the right method of doing it.
Then how can we permit the SHAVING of armpit hair unless there be a DEFINITE TEXT or an ATHAR from the Ashaab e Rasoolillaah SalAllaahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam?

So if someone can come up with any narrations or aathar or the aqwaal of the aimmah in this particular issue, then we all are waiting.....

And fear Allaah lest we start penning down our own opinions without proper Backup, for this is the Deen of Allaah.

May Allaah grant us the tawfeeq to enliven the Sunnah of the Best of the Creation even if it be a single one and even if it is looked down upon by the hypocrites......Aameen Ya Rabbal Aalameen.

according to this logic, is it permissible for women to shave their eyebrows to shape them or wax them since it mentions 'not to pluck' them.?

the 3illa is the removal of the hair. unless ur dhahiri and u technically dont believe in 3illas.

The Dthaarihiyyah do in fact believe in the 'Illah, what they reject is Qiyaas which is an extention of a ruling, where as usage of the 'Illah is an application of a general principle, for example, Khamir is Haraam and the 'Illah behind its prohibition is that it intoxicates, so the 'Asl is anything that intoxicates and the Far would then be anything that also intoxicates, like Crack cocaine or any other mind altering substance, thus the 'Illah is used as a general principle.

And exactly for this reason I don't understand why you post this question here. You have a fatwa from Al-Lajnah saying it is permissible. Nobody here can hold a candle to them. You have fulfilled your obligation as a layman by asking a scholar whom you trust. If you don't trust them, ask another scholar, but not a bunch of laymen on an internet forum.
