Some Ramadan Reflections

"The life of this world is nothing - only play and amusement. What is best is the dwelling in the Life-to-Come - for those who possess Taqwa." [6:32 Interpretation of Meaning ]

The past month - the sacred one of Ramadan - has been for me a time for both du'a and reflection. I have spent time, during what was my seventh Ramadan, reflecting on the situation in places like Iraq, and once again pondering the nature and intent of the kuffar, especially Amerika.

The last few days of Ramadan saw the kuffar - aided by their apostate allies - battle with the Mujahideen for control of Falluja, and once again we had the situation of the kuffar killing Muslims, torturing them, invading their homes, and terrorizing them while the rulers of Muslim lands remained strangely silent, and while perhaps the majority of the Ummah did little or nothing to aid their brothers and sisters.

Among the accounts of the savagery, the arrogance, of the kuffar was the following, by Asma Khamis al-Muhannadi who worked at a hospital bombed by the Amerikans:

"We were tied up and beaten despite being unarmed and having only our medical instruments. The hospital was targeted by bombs and rockets. I was with a woman in labour. The umbilical cord had not yet been cut. At that time, a US solider shouted at one of the national guards to arrest me and tie my hands while I was helping the mother to deliver. I will never forget this incidence in my life. I am from Falluja and I work there. They claimed I was a fighter and stole our money and mobile phones. The troops dragged patients from their beds and pushed them towards the wall. All of us were subject to intense inspection; the soldiers even examined children's diapers. Two female doctors were forced to totally undress "

Another resident of Falluja - Saad al-Dulaimi - said: "We seek the aid and help of the Ummah." But, as usual, little or no help or aid was forthcoming from the many Muslims around the world, as the Amerikans saught to follow - in their brutal treatment of Muslims - the example of the Zionists in occupied Palestine.

Where were the Muslims angry at the treatment of their brothers and sisters? Where were the public calls for Jihad? Where were the calls for the overthrow of those apostate rulers who aided and abetted the kuffar in their campaign against the Muslims of Iraq?

But there were reasons for us, as Muslims, to be proud - for here, again, as at Jenin and Tora Bora, we had Muslims defying the arrogance, the brutality, the seeming might of the kuffar. During the battle for Falluja I received from a brother copies of photographs of the Mujahideen defending their land, their families, and of course Islam itself. One of these showed a Mujahid sleeping, while the kuffar bombarded the area around with missiles and bombs. On his pillow - a copy of the Quran. By his hand - his weapons. Another showed an elderly man by a window, AK47 in hand, waiting for the Amerikans.

How many Muslims have been martyred during this battle? How many more are ready and willing to take their place? There is inspiration here, for we who are Muslim, as there is a lesson here for the kuffar. Our inspiration is in knowing that the authentic Islam - of Jihad - lives in the hearts, minds, the deeds, of Muslims despite the concerted campaign by the kuffar to destroy it; our inspiration is in knowing that despite the billions upon billions of dollars the kuffar have spent to try and brainwash Muslims, world-wide - to subvert Islam - there are thousands upon thousands of Muslims who strive to obey the will of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala), who are inspired by the example of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and who are prepared to die rather than submit to the kuffar - for these Muslims know, or feel in their very hearts, that this life is only a test, a means - and that its real importance lies in the opportunity it provides for us to attain the real goal, which is Jannah. And, as the Hadith says: the Gates of Jannah are opened through Jihad.

What is the lesson for the kuffar? It is that they - with all their military power, with all their wealth, their brutality, their killing of Muslims, their occupation of our lands, with all their apostate allies - cannot kill the spirit of Jihad which lives within our hearts and always will live within our hearts if we, as Muslims, do our simple duty and submit only to the will of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala).

I, for one, in these days of the Zionist-Crusader alliance, in these days of anti-Islamic propganda, these days of anti-islamic terror, am proud to be a Muslim - and proud to defend, in public, the Mujahideen who are defying, with their lives, their deeds, their simple faith, the arrogance and cowardly brutality of the kuffar.

The Messenger of Allah (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: "The world is the prison of the Mu`min, and a Paradise for the Kaffir." (Saheeh Muslim, Kitaabuz-Zuhdi war-Raqaa`iq [18/93] Sharh an-Nawawi)

Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal and Imam Abdallah Ibnul Mubarak said "In times of a dispute among the Ummah seek the opinion of the Mujahideen (on the battlefields) because the truth will be with them. Allah says 'As for those who do Jihad for us, We assuredly guide them to Our path.'" (29:69). Ibn Taymiyyah: Majmoo' al-Fatawa of Ibn Taymiyyah, Volume 28, p 442
