O Gitmo! Shame Shame!

It all started in 2001!
The pretentious ‘War on Terror’ had just begun
Soon we began witnessing horrific flights
Loaded with people deprived of their basic human rights
Wearing orange jumpsuits - Hooded, shackled and chained
Routinely humiliated again and again
O Gitmo! Shame Shame!

Dumbfounded, we watched in horror
As the ‘liberator’ became the oppressor
From British, Kuwaiti, Australian and Pakistani
To Canadian, Yemeni, Saudi and Afghani
Men plucked from around the globe
Gradually stories of the abuse they suffered began to unfold
O Gitmo! Shame Shame!

Thrown into a supposed cell
Forced to exist in a ‘living hell’
Some kept in isolation
Others are put on sleep deprivation
Subjected to brutal and extreme force
By ‘officers’ expressing no remorse
O Gitmo! Shame Shame!

“These are the most evil and dangerous people”, we’ve been told
For detention none is too young or too old
Many prisoners are unaware as to why they are accused
Yet indiscriminately each and every one is abused
Access to visitors, lawyers and family denied
This is the justice of the ‘civilised’
O Gitmo! Shame Shame!

Disregarding human rights workers cries
The ‘keepers of peace’ continued to ‘chastise’
Despite the captives’ pleas of innocence
They were convinced this was the best form of recompense
Otherwise ‘atrocious crimes’ these ‘terrorist scum’ would commit
Surely in this situation such heavy handed tactics were ‘legit’!
O Gitmo! Shame Shame!

Some ‘extremist’ prisoners have since been released uncharged
Bearing permanent physical and psychological scars
No rehabilitation programmes have they been offered
Nor any apology given for the torture they suffered
Expected to return to their previous lives just fine
To forget what has been stolen of their precious time
O Gitmo! Shame Shame!

5 Years on and has anything changed
Or is the situation still just as deranged?
Alas! Around the world in the name of this war, thousands continue to be killed
Whilst in Cuba, though hundreds are occupied, many empty cells are waiting to be filled
At the start of this century we were introduced to Guantanamo Bay – on humanity a blot, a stain
In existence for half a decade already, for how much longer will this monstrosity remain?
O Gitmo! Shame Shame!

At least the muslim who wrote it took the time to contemplate a second or two on the faith of other muslims, thats seems like a lot in these days of mutual brotherly hatred and the contstant inhuman disrespect to each other which seems to manifest on a second by second basis, then we shamelessly manifest it into an unislamic joke called my way,my thing,my manner, etc, etc, take a positive where you see it as long as it dosent go against the deen and lets show a little mercy to each other inshAllah after all,we all have feelings, sah wa lilah?
