AsSalaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.
What do you say to people who say that they believe that God is too merciful and forgiving, to put the "good people" from other religions into Hell? What do you say when they say that all religions are the same, they all say "be good..." and they all say they're right and that everyone else is wrong? What is the best way to approach this mentality? Please note, the girl used to be Muslim, so she knows very well what Islam says about this, she knows very well what tawheed is (although apparently now, she doesn't care to affirm it astaghfirullaah), ... apparently she had been in a lot of religions (Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Paganism, Islam) and said that each time she felt the same, and now she doesn't really want to be in a religion because it will make her biased. Then on top of that she says that "we'll just see when we get there", and that she doesn't really care, if Allaah (swt) wants to put her in Hell, He will. She's depressed, so she's not thinking straight, and I don't know what to do to help her, if I can help her inshallaah... Please give me suggestions on how to deal with this mentality, because I know that there are many more people with it out there. Jazak Allaah khair.

What I would say is : "How do you know that 'God is too merciful and forgiving, to put "good people" from other religons into Hell"
Infact how do you know if God is merciful and forgiving at all?
If she is stuck for an answer..you present Qur'an as the only revelation which deals with this fundamental knowledge which all humans instinctively need to know.
If your freind says because God describes himself like that in Qur'an, then you can say, 'Yes he does and in the very same revelation he also says he is going to put the kufaar into Hell'...
Ask her does it make sense that God would give people lives of 60, 70 and 80 years ...as a waiting period .for them to die and then..'we'll just see when we get there" who was right? does that make sense?! It doesnt make sense, and you can talk to her about how that implies that THE ANSWER is available to us in this life...
I'm sorry I can't write more or necessarily give you a correct approach to deal with this issue, these are only points that came to my kind...
You might also have to consider the possibility that in reality she understands Islam, but because of other motivations, her hawaa she is putting up barriers herself to not accept it...
Don't forget to pray to Allah to guide her also.

it is allah who gives guidance, pray for her giudance and leave it at that. the more you show that you care the worse this little shaitan is going to get.
whats important here is to protect yourself from her satanic evil and depressive illness just tell her islam is the only truth and her opinion of it doesnt count its worthless give her the 'i dont care' and im 'right your wrong' routine the key is to ESCALATE then she will listen (people only listen when the response is louder, stronger, sharper)
some people just crave attention all they do is sulk and moan and blame everyone else she is obviously not an intellectual and needs to grow up and get real therefore she is not worth any effort in trying to explain the deen.
dont encourage her by giving her undeserved attention care and respect this enemy of allah left the religion remember THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!
put this murtad in her place!

Assalamu alaikum,
I think if this girl is suffering from depression the Muslims should help her. We shouldn't shun her when she is on the brink of apostacy just because she is confused. Many people have this misconception (i.e. non-Muslims), so perhaps she didn't have much knowledge.
It may seem contrary to compassion that God would allow "good people" of other religions to go the Fire, but we really need to get down to definitions. What is good? Who decides good? Today most people accept incest to be wrong but Allah forbid that one day it may become legal for "two consenting adults".
So who is more evil than the one who trangresses their Creator's bounds? It doesn't technically matter whether that person is merciful to the creation, they weren't the ones who Created. You need to establish Allah's rights upon his servants.
Then you can get into the whole issue of a Merciful God and variant religions. Is it possible that God would send so many different religions - all being "equally valid" - but which cause humanity to be divided, wartorn, etc. Is it not more befitting the Mercy of al-Rahman that He send His True Religion with Clear Proofs and Arguments?
Then you can get into these Clear Proofs and Arguments. Hope that has helped somewhat.
Wassalamu alaikum
