These kings, it seems are really fond of paintings, and portraits. So much so for making no pictures. There are actually many places in SA where there are pictures of their rulers. There was one big painting of Fahd on the wall near Kaaba a few years ago. Of course, if you go to Jordan or Syria, there are pictures there too, but these guys claim to be whatever, and everyone thinks these are hardcore wahhabies.

Their faith is weak, which leads them to not pick up Islamic Books, just like the thousands upon thousands of muslims who have reduced Islam to rituals.

La3natullahi 3la Abdel Aziz, wa Abna Abdel Aziz, wa lei Munasirehim. May Allah rid the land of the two holy mosques from them, and make aal saoud perish as beggars in the streets of Europe and North America.
Rasulullah never wish the la'na of Allah to any individuals. He forbade Aisha from wishing la'na upon a Jew who wishes death upon him.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 9, Book 84, Number 61:
'Aisha (RA) narrated:
A group of Jews asked permission to visit the Prophet (and when they were admitted) they said, "As-Samu 'Alaika (Death be upon you)." I said (to them), "But death and the curse of Allah be upon you!" The Prophet said, "O 'Aisha! Allah is kind and lenient and likes that one should be kind and lenient in all matters." I said, "Haven't you heard what they said?" He said, "I said (to them), 'Wa 'Alaikum (and upon you).

Samurah bin Jundub (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Do not curse one another, invoking Curse of Allah or Wrath of Allah or the fire of Hell.''
[Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

Abu Barzah Nadlah bin `Ubaid Al-Aslami (May Allah be pleased with him) said: A young woman was riding a she-camel on which there was the luggage of people. Suddenly she saw the Prophet (PBUH). The pass of the mountain became narrow for her people (because of fear). The young woman said to the she-camel: "Go ahead.'' When it did not move, she said, "O Allah! Curse it.'' The Prophet (PBUH) said, "The she-camel that has been cursed should not accompany us.''
[Muslim].

Al-La`nah (curse) means deprivation of Allah's Mercy.

It's true you'll find these portaraits in various offices, businesses, goverenment buildings and even (I assume) some homes but it's even more widespread than that.

There's huge bill boards on the streets with them smiling and waving at passers by. Some people even drive around with a huge picture of the king filling the back windscreen of their cars (normally next to a picture of an eagle).

Plus the recent Saudi national day (celebrating the founding of the kingdom) saw kids and adults alike displaying flags and badges with the guy's face on them.

It's actually very pitiful (or "bitiful" if you're Saudi).

There are a lot of Islamically minded people in Saudi but there's also a large amount of "secularists" or "moderates" too. It's easy in the west to think that this society here should be idyllic based on the Saudi 'ulama's stance on various issues but the reality of the situation is that there is very much a psychological battle going on for the minds of the people between those who adhere to the deen and those who'd like the deen restricted to the masajid.
