as-salaamu 'alaikum...
We are planning to organise a lecture on Paltalk on Sunnism vs. Ash'arism...
What I would like to know from the audience is the following:
1) What days and timings (GMT) are suitable for you all? Would after Isha GMT be ok? And on what days?
2) What are the misconceptions you would like to be addressed? please list them down one by one, like 'are Ash'aris from Ahl al-Sunnah', or 'did the the Salaf make ta'wil'? etc? And we'll try to address them all interactively..
Once we get a good response, we'll announce the time and room for the lecture, inshaaAllah

Speaking for myself, I would like to know what exactly the Ash'aris believe, what is in line with Ahl-u-Sunnah and what is not and why. Enough stuff for a 1-year-programme, I guess. Maybe also a little bit of their history (when and why they were actually founded, what were the circumstances at that time, etc.).
- Husain.

why not make it even more interesting and have a full blown debate.
Any Ashariyyah convinced of their beliefs enough to defend them out there??

I think that there is more important knowledge which is a lot more worth having a class about...aqeedah issues, Allaahs names and atttributes........etc.
Secondly, I believe one course should be given 100% effort to before beginning others. There are many unfinished courses on this forums for instance which I must say I'm quite disappointed about as they have been up for at least a year if not longer and only a section complete. Allahu'ALam.
just my two cents worth..

The lecture is not a new series... it is just a one off lecture that deals with a lot of the issues that people are confused about head on. The aim is to give us all a chance to discuss these issues interactively and get the message across.
The only online series of lectures we'll be focusing on is Sharh of al-Tahawiyya

As salaam 'alaykum.
Doesn't shaykh Salims classes fulfill that need on pal talk allready ?
Any talk would be a reflection on the topics that are discussed here more , but the site admin would like feedback on what other topics everyone would like to go over at a later date , or with other speakers.
JazakAllaahu khayran for your input.

is it only sunnism v. asharism? or v. asharism and maturudizm, because when asharis have nothing to say, they say that they actually prefer maturidy aqida, and that both of these are synonyms and ahl al sunna, just that the first is the way of khalaf and the second is the way of salf (why did they need to call it after Maturidy in this case, is a mystery itself).

wa'alaikum as-salaam wa rahmatullaah,
Monday evening would be a good slot, if you're available then.
An interesting point to cover would be, in my view, the origins of these sects. How they came about, developed, and over time established themselves as schools of theology? What, if any, influence did the political/sectarian-situations of the day have upon them? and so forth...The only online series of lectures we'll be focusing on is Sharh of al-TahawiyyaSorry, does this mean that we'll be moving away from the current text-based study of the Sharh of al-Tahawiyyah to regular study lectures on it via Paltalk?

salaams bro, pls record it, also can you start doing some more audio lectures, it woul dbe nice for issues to be clarified on other then this forum, maybe more articles , audio lectures would be good, I'm losing track of all this information, i like to have looks at old threads but it seems that hardly anyone reads that no more, but the information is gold dust. Also it would save you time and effort, when people like me always ask you repeat questions and save you writing ' I have already dealt with that!!' lol

hmmm, if my understanding is correct, the east coast is GMT minus 5, so that would be ....1700 EST or 7 pm?
That time works perfectly for me.

Why such a huge amount of the great scholars of the past (RahimahumUllah)had Ash'ari beliefs, despite it being wrong?
Why does it seem like there were more scholars with Ash'ari beliefs than correct beliefs? is that even the case, or is that a misconception?
22:00 GMT is good for me, 21:00 would be good as well insha'Allah, but no earlier, since I have to put the kids to sleep,

I hope soon. It could be done in English, and in the last hour (or 30 min.) discuss what has been mentioned in English in Arabic with anyone who likes to contribute his thoughts (or criticism), be he from aslain, nilin or wherever.

please inquire where did they get this innovative idea of
taqleed in fiqh not in aqeedah when they in fact do both.
