i had to share this. this is a sufi tareeqah in iraq, called the (al-aliyya al-qadiriyya) al-kasnazaniyyah. they are the ones that openly (and proudly) deal with knives, swords, fire, etc. in their "khawariq"... they believe these are karaamaat! (for a refutation of the khawariq pls see: http://saaid.net/feraq/sufyah/shobhat/07.htm)

note that these are iraqis from the north (alot of the people present are kurds btw, although there are arabs too).

the kaznazanis, a subsect of the qadariyyah are generally pro-iraqi government. but not necassarily pro-coalition.

i believe this group or related groups were under attack from one of al qaidas affiliates called 'ansar al islam' who would attack sufi gatherings especially in kurd areas. these gatherings often frequented by kurd officers appointed by occupying coalition through the puppet iraqi regime

there are reports that members from several different orders have joined the insurgency but not as ideological fighters

sufis are naturally opposed to salafist jihadis, so its not surprising that many sufi orientated tribes of anbar assisted the americans in fighting mujahideen and thus preventing them from sniping and roadside bombing the occupying forces.
