Assalamu alaikum....

Im just a seeker of truth who wishes to have the expalanation for a hadees found in Sunan Abu Dawood:

Book 23, Number 3409:
Narrated Ubaydah ibn as-Samit:

I taught some persons of the people of Suffah writing and the Qur'an. A man of them presented to me a bow. I said: It cannot be reckoned property; may I shoot with it in Allah's path? I must come to the Apostle of of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) and ask him (about it). So I came to him and said : Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him), one of those whom I have been teaching writing and the Qur'an has presented me a bow, and as it cannot be reckoned property, may I shoot with it in Allah's path? He said: If you want to have a necklace of fire on you, accept it.

Can anyone who has sense please tell me on what basis are the Duaat and the ulema extracting money from the common masses for doing this noble duty of teaching Allaah's Deen?

Assalamu alaikum once again....

Almost a month and a half passed with nearly 150 people having read my query.....
Has anyone not even taken an initiative to enquire about this hadees by consulting with the ulema they know to find a reply for this question?

or

Is it that this web-site is only visited by the RUWAYBIDAH (Lowly & Ignoble people talking about the public affairs) who can neither guide nor are themselves guided?

And are not the ones running this website yet found some convincing reply for this question........

I found the following:

It is permissible to accept payment for teaching Qur’aan

Question :

Is it right to take/accept money for teaching Quran?

Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.

The Standing Committee was asked about whether it is permissible to accept payment for teaching Qur’aan. They replied:

Yes, it is permissible to accept payment for teaching Qur’aan according to the more correct of the two scholarly views, because of the general meaning of the hadeeth:

“The thing for which you most deserve to take payment is the Book of Allaah,” (narrated by al-Bukhaari), and because there is a real need for that. And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allah bless our Prophet Muhammad.

Question: Is it allowed in Islam to accept money for teaching the Qur’ân?

Answered by Sheikh Riyâd al-Musaymîrî, professor at al-Imâm University in Riyadh

Yes, it is permissible to accept money for teaching Qur’ân, particularly in case of need. In Sahîh al-Bukhârî [5737] it is related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The best money you can earn is that which you earn through Allah’s book”.

This is the saying of the majority of the people of knowledge, including the great jurists Mâlik and al-Shâfi`î. It is also one of the opinions narrated from Ahmad b. Hanbal.

There is another hadîth that forbids such earnings, but it is a weak hadîth.

I hold the opinion that it is lawful to earn money for teaching the Qur’ân and the Sunnah and for imparting Islamic knowledge, since it is clearly sanctioned by the above-mentioned hadîth.

And Allah knows best.
