Salaam,
I read something recently regarding Allaamah al-Kashmeeri. It mentioned that he is referred to in Faydh al-Baree (3/335), as one of the great Hanafi scholars, who was engaged in Hadith-work in India. It also said that he sometimes followed the Hadith even it opposes his school of thought. He died in 1352 A.H., rahimahullah.
Has anyone heard of this desi muhaddith?

wa'alaikum as-salaam wa rahmatullah,It mentioned that he is referred to in Faydh al-Baree (3/335), as one of the great Hanafi scholars, who was engaged in Hadith-work in India. He was the author of Faydh al-Baari, a sharh on Sahih al-Bukhari.
You can read a biographical account of his life, here (http://www.jamiat.org.za/isinfo/akashmiri.html) and here (http://alashrafia.com/english/anwar.html).
He was known to have a very strong memory, and thus was known to have memorised dozens of texts on various subjects.

Assalamu alaikum,
It is said of him that he had memorised all the books in the library of deoband and a deoband scholar told me of a interesting incident of him, once on a trip to egypt he was impressed by an arabic book he read there and wanted to take it home to get in translated and printed, but when refused, he memorised the whole book and had it printed when he came back home, but inspite of his extraordinary memory he could never memorise the Quran completely and would struggle during Taraweeh prayers owing to his habit of deep contemplation of Quranic verses whenever he would come across!(Wallahualam)
And does anyone know more about Syed Ata’ullah Shah Bukhari and his works...?
And works of Maulana sanaulla amritsari who was known for his wit and prolific knowledge,I once heard an intersting incident of him,As the maulana was known for his debates with hindu scholars from Arya samaj, who had launched a ideological campaign against Isalm, once during a debate when it was maulana's turns to speak after the pandit had finished his diatribe the pandit refused to debate with him on grounds that he had come to debate with a muslim whereas maulana was considered a kafir even by muslims, referring to the barelvi polemics against maulana, the maulana without wasting anytime to defend himself, told that if he was a kafir would become a muslim and recited the Kalimah and went on to refute him!

wa’alaikum as-salaam,And does anyone know more about Syed Ata’ullah Shah Bukhari and his works...?He was a famous Indian speaker, rahimahullah, affliated with the Deobandi scholars, particularly known for his debates with the Qadiyaanis from the 1920’s onwards. He was involved in setting up the Ahrar-e-Islam Movement.
There’s a short biography of him available in Urdu by ‘Abdul Ghani Faruq.
I’ve attached a photograph of him that I came across somewhere.
