Assalamu Alaykum,

I am a college student; I never took out a loan. However, I plan to marry this summer insha'Allah and just in time. Since, I am a junior/senior in college there is a program offered in my state only for engineer majors: here's the link (http://www.michigan.gov/mistudentaid/0,1607,7-128-38195_39283-111860--,00.html). I want an expert opinion, and if no one is eligible to give one then please forward this post to them. I would like to know if this transaction is permissible. Thank you wa jazzah-kom-Allah-al-khair. What engineering discipline are you in? And what year? How is Engineering like in Michigan (I am across the border).

AbuAhmad,

I currently attend a community college, and the university I intend to transfer to considers software engineering as an engineering program as a result I am eligible for the loan program as stated above. I am going to be a junior over there insha'Allah. I'll talk to my friends who all received bachelors for electrical and mechanical engineering, however, from what I know it doesn't look too good. Wa Allahu 'Alim.

I take an interest-free loan myself. You can get internships during the summer and EASILY pay for school.

Thank you AbuAhmad; I asked some of my friends on the job outlook for engineers in Michigan, and right now it is undesirable. If you have any other more questions let me know. Assalamu alaykum.
