Bro... if you want to study fiqh, you have to learn Arabic. You cannot be a serious student by studying a book of fiqh in English, and subsequently, your attribution to any particular madhab will remain meaningless.

Moreover, even if you knew Arabic, it would be impossible for you to pursue your studies in the fiqh of a madhab, except with a teacher who has studied the madhab and knows exactly what he's teaching.

I am saying this not to disappoint you, but only trying to make you think, what do you want to achieve in life? Do you want to pursue the path of knowledge? Or do you want to do something else for the Ummah? Because not all of us are supposed to be scholars.

If you want to pursue the path of knowledge, then you will need to prepare to travel a lot. Travelling for knowledge is a crucial part of learning, too.

salaamu alaykum,

my dear brother what i mean by getting a fiqh book is whenever i need to look up something i have a book of law to look for. For an example a friend called me and asked me about bathroom etiquets. So i opened up a shafii manual (he is shafii) and just read what the author stated. This is what im talking about I dont want to be a Talibul ilm, a munafiq like myself cannot carry on that burden. I just want sources to read into. For an example, im not trying to be an aqidah expert but i got fatwa hamawiyah (explanation by shaykh ibn uthaymeen), dispraise of al hawwa (by dr. salih) al aqeedah al wasitiyah, Kitaab at tawhid by shaykh salih al fawzaan, i just love to read akhi.

And the reason i asked in this particular thread is because when i pick up reliance of the traveler i can get shafii answers though i fear getting influenced with tawassul and ilm al kalam baatil for we know who is the translator obvious and his aqidah and manhaj.

In that case get hold of fiqh al-Sunnah in English... that should suffice InshaaAllah.

Mashallaah i have the abridged edition of that, Though some amongst the salafis told me that it contains many weak hadiths. Should this still be sufficient? I like reading from it and just the other day i was looking at it.

Keller never wrote a book on fiqh, he translated two.

Yes it has some mistakes, like any other book would... If you can accompany it with Tamam al-Minna of al-Albani, it would not work wonders but definitely help.

But the work as it is should be sufficient, inshaaAllah.

As a rule of thumb, however, you should have direct contact with a mufti wherever and whenever possible.
