Assalam Alaikum,

It might or might not suprise the author of this article and the website owner to know that the classical Salafi scholar Ibn Taymiyyah was a strong advocate of progression in Islam aswell and made huge efforts in his lifetime to re-kindle this progressive spirit back into Islam-When Muslims and Islamic workers are following in his footsteps talk about this progressive spirit we mean we want to DEVELOP in our worship to become better slaves to Allah and try to reach the level these scholars did to uphold Allah's deen on earth.

It might also suprise you to know that your dear Sayyid Qutb was also a strong advocate of progression and reform aswell.

Do you and your authors actually or ever propose any solutions and alternatives or do you like to sit there criticizing every sincere Muslim who's trying to do something for Islam?

With all due respect to S.S, the kind of progression the author of the article is criticising is not the type of progression you are thinking of. Which sane muslim would criticise developing our worship!!

I*******think you have to understand the brothers article in the light of what we might term 'modernist' muslims who really are just trying to copy western ideas and culture and call it progression in Islamic thought. We muslims are aginst that..and i'm sure Ibn Taiymiyah would be too!! And indeed Syed Qutb gave his life to fighting the wave of secularism and kufr that had swept the Islamic world in large part because the so called Muslim leaders of places like Egypt wanted 'progression', their progression then was kufr and the progression these modernists want now can also be regarded as kufr to a large part.

I think the article was actually one of the best short articles I have read on the danger of this new 'progressive' wave of thought, it gives a clear picture of what is occuring.

And Allah Knows Best.

Assalam Alaikum,

Well to tell you the truth I didnt read all the article entirely just*******a few paragraphs and skimmed the rest as i am short for time on the computer.

I dont know if i entirely agree with your views on Syed Qutb-he is to a large degree responsible for this modernist movement and the mess it is creating in the Ummah today.

There are also rumours that he was more obsessed with power. And there are other controversial issues like whether, he deliberately insulted some of the Prophets and Sahaba.

However I wouldnt go so far as some Muslims who say he was an British spy.

All due respect to anyone who looks upto him and follows him.

Assalam Alaikum,

I have just read that article.
Secularising Islam from within-what would you have to say about Sayyid Qutb then?

Syed Qutb-key member of Ikhwaan ul Muslimeen-manhaj: democracy, secularism, power, politics.

His insults to the Prophet Musa (s) and teh sahaba can be found in his tafseer "In the shade of the Quran".

If you study his life and works I'm sure we'd be in agreement.

Thank you.

As Salaamualaikum,

With all due respect I think you are quite confused.

Yes, Syed Qutb was a member of Ikhwan, but he was also very much his own man, infact it could be argued he was its chief idealogue...but dont confuse his ideas with those of the ikhwan today or groups in the UK which many people classify as Ikhwan.

As for democracy! Are you serious ? Have you read anything by Syed Qutb?! He was one of the most Important people in exposing democracy for what it is, a direct challenge to Allahs Haakimiyah! This was in the 1960's when he was a lone voice and nobody had really undestood the kufr and shirk in democracy.

Secularism!! Subhnallah, even a cursory look at Syed Qutbs a works should tell you how against Secularism he was!

Power...yes!! how else will Islam become predominant? Power for Islam..not for himself.

Politics..yes!! Politics is from Islam. This requires a study. Have a listen to Shaykh Ali Timimis lecture on the 'Political Revival of Islam' on this website for more info.

I have read his Tafseer of Quraan and his other works. He does not insult Musa at all. It has been alleged that he did, but I cant see how you can accuse him of that except by reading his words in the worst possible light, something these Hadadi Salafis are very good at doing, especially with Syed Qutb..which is actually where these accusations originate from.

I would advise you to refrain from slandering and accusing a great man who died for his Faith. This was the man who could have saved his life by signing a form acknowledging the rule of Taghoot but instead he said " This finger which testifies to the oness of allah, will not acknowledge the rule of Taaghoot" (Or words to that effect.

Assalamu alaikum

Being a anti- progressive, it comes easy for me to agree with most of the point raised by this author.

What is the goal of progressives ?! Better way of living, Cosy cushion right in the middle of living room ? warmth on a cold day ? huge amount of money, when you feel like shopping ? Better economy in a larger sense ? By obtaining all this, would we be able to please our lord ?!

By allah, All those sounds like american dream . If any muslim who have read quran would*******know that this life is a test for a man/ woman. The ppl they love, the wealth they accumulate, they business in which they prosper, the relationships they built and their desires, home, security, sanctity are all bound for a test. why then dream ?!

I know, some of us might turn back at me and scowl , then why are you still holding onto the facilities you think as a mode fo test ?! i am not against wealth or comfort. But i dont place that as my goal.*******

Submission to oneness is progressive and the author has done justice to that issue by exposing the fallacies of being pseudo progressive.

Wassalam
