Assalaam alaikum,

Yet another question...

The following situation recently arose....

Members of the family wanted to purchase a product called Eurovox (I think this is what it is called) which when certain software is applied allows all satellite channels to be received without any subscription charges..

This is where the argument arises...

some are saying it is fine to buy and use as they have purchased the product (the box and software) and they are therefore free to use it.

My counter argument is they are still involved in deceit / fraud as they are receiving a service which they are not paying for / without the permission (in effect) of the provider.

I'm struggling to make my point stick...

firstly, is my understanding correct?
secondly, can anyone provide a better explaination so I can make them see sense.

Jazakallah khairun

Using such software to steal TV channels is completely Haram. It is absurd that anyone would justify such a thing. Just because you paid for that device does not change the fact that you would be stealing.

There are certain devices that allow people to break into jewelery safes. Should that be justified since you paid for the device?

Asalamualaykum,

Wouldnt it depend on wheather what they are doing is illegal or not?

I mean if what is being done is not against the law of the land then would it still be considered to be haram?
