Destiny of non-Muslims!

As'salaamu Alaikum Warakhmatullahi Wabaraktuhu,

Ok, I feel like an idiot asking this question - but first the background info. I just came back from a halaqa where we were engaged in a "debate." From my understanding, I thought that anyone whose not a Muslim (Islam as their deen) will not enter Jannah. Now the debate was on what about those people today (whether Ahlul Kitab or any other Mushriks and or Kafirs) who NEVER heard about Islam even though they were practicing shirk. Now, I told them that Allah does NOT forgive shirk but the person leading the halaqa insisted that that ayah deals with one "knowing" that he is committing shirk. I was abit perplexed for I never heard anyone say that. I thought anyone knowing or not knowing who commits shirk will be destined to the hellfire!



Can someone help - And sorry for such an elementary level question for I just start practicing Islam, Alhumdullillah!

Those to whom Allah's message has not reached and they die in that state will not be punished until they are tested on the last day.

As for those to whom the message has reached, people are of two opinions: a) the mere fact that the message has reached them and they do not embrace Islam, they will be in the fire of hell; and b) the mere fact that the message has reached them is not enough, but if they understand it and then reject it then they will be in Fire. But if they do not understand it they will be tested on the Last Day.

Those Kuffar to whom the message has not reached will be tested on Judgement Day.

If they fail the test they will enter the Hell Fire where they will burn.

If they pass the the will enter the Hell Fire but Allah will make it cool for them.

Either way, only Muslims will enter Jannat.

@ Abuz Zubair - What do you make of these people who say that the ignorants from Ahl Ul Kitab who who don't have knowledge of Islam are not kafiroon.

Another similar question you often hear is what about those kuffar who know Muslims but to whm the message has not been conveyed? ie they have been given no dawah. Are they punished or is it the Muslims' fault for not giving him/her dawah?
