I've been buying Norton for years now, probably for no other reasons than that human beings are habitual creatures.

Anyway, this year I bought Norton 360, which seems to be the newest product rather than the usual Anti-Virus package.

It wasn't until after I bought it that I realised that I can't direct the virus scan to specific areas, like my flash drive. If I want to scan my flash for viruses I have to run a complete system scan which takes 33 minutes.

My employer doesn't have anti-virus so whenever I bring my flash home it's normally infected with an assorted mix of Trojans, Downloaders, W32.rajump and the rather annoying Rontokbro.

Does anyone know of a way to force Norton 360 to only scan my flash so that I can do it in 2 rather than 33 minutes? And right clicking on the drive via "My computer" doesn't offer "scan drive" as an option, so don't suggest that.

That really sucks!

I just flamed on their comments page about it and don't think I'll buy Norton again.

Maybe too late for youself, but I would advise others and yourself in the future to use Kaspersky Anti Virus, as I believe that is one of the best packages around. Having used Norton in the past, I find Kaspersky to be the easiest to use and it doesnt slow down my computer that much either.

Yeah, most of the teachers in our school use Kaspersky as one of the students cracked the authentication process. But I figured it wasn't going to be that good as I'd never heard the name before and so I went and bought this 360 nonsense.

I'm pretty sure it's been more than 28 days but even if it hadn't been they don't seem to have much of a concept of customer service over here to honour such a thing anyway.

norton is heavy on resources, slow virus scanning and its firewall isnt as strong as a firewall should be though definately better than mcafee.

one of the best suites out there is zonealarm but it was recently purchased by an isreali company called checkpoint. so instead of giving you the peace of mind that it promises, you would be left wondering if your firewall is dialling back home with the user reports!

Norton AV has always been a resource hog. Haven't used it in a long while, but I doubt that much has changed when it comes to that matter.

I have used KAV a lot and installed it on a lot of machines and I must say that it is very good, the only problem being that it makes boot last longer than with other AVs. AVG is also a good solution, especialy since it's completely free.
But my best recommendation is deffinitely NOD32.

Or you can do as I did and switch to Linux, you won't have to worry about viruses any more. Same applies if you switch to MacOS, but it is a more expensive solution.
