I wanted some help regarding these, trilateral verb derived forms of verbs. What is it in arabic ? Thulathi Mazeed ? Am i saying it right,

I have been through them with a teacher before, but cant seem to get my head around understanding them, as well as trying to do background reading on them from some grammer books. Memorising them is one thing which I have not done yet also.

So we have the ten forms and its different implications, Lets look at an example, say Form-4; which puts a meaning of 'causative'.

In Form-1 مَفْعُولٌ (Maf'ool) means 'It was done'.

In Form-4 Its مُفْعَلٌ (Muf'alun) how does it change its meaning ?.

Thats one example, now to try and understand this for 63 other deriviations, alas to know it off the top of your head and to understand it when it is said in the Quran or otherwise, i dont know, i find that a bit too much !!

So I say... Help, anyone, advice ?

Maybe we can have a thread for each form, with some explanations and examples from brothers who understand all this, sorry Im asking for a bit too much.

Barakallah Feekum Ya Ikhwaan.

Thulathi Mazeed ? Am i saying it right Yeah, مزيد الثلاثي

In Form-1 مَفْعُولٌ (Maf'ool) means 'It was done'.

In Form-4 Its مُفْعَلٌ (Muf'alun) how does it change its meaning ?. I think maybe it's better to take each verb seperately and look at how the meaning changes with each change in sarf - it'll be too much to digest if you try memorising all the different derivations at once.

For example, the verb غ - ر - ق (drown/immerse) in Form 4 will be:

أغرق - and so the ism maf'ool will be مُغْرَق (something that is caused to drown etc).
The wazn (pattern/scale) of مُفعَل gives a meaning indicating 'something that is caused to be done/take an action' eg. مسمَع (something that's made to be heard)

A nice example of the difference of ism faa'il and ism maf'ool of the verb: أنظر (mazeed al-thulaathi)

"And indeed We sent among them warners(mundhireen - ism faa'il)."

"Then see what was the end of those who were warned (mundhareen - ism maf'ool)." [As-Saaffaat: 72 and 73]
