By 2024, Muslims will become the world's seventh superpower, claimed Pakistan's former Army Chief General (retired) Mirza Aslam Beg.
Addressing a seminar at the University of Peshawar, Beg, who is the chairman of the Foundation for Research on International Environment, National Development and Security (FRIENDS), was quoted by the Daily Times as predicting US influence going back to its previous limitations, while China, Europe, the Russian Federation and the Association of South East Asia Nations, headed by Japan and India, would become the new superpowers.
He said that at this stage no one could ignore the emergence of Islamic resistance movements as the seventh global force. Such a force, according to him, could become a global force like the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC).
Beg warned that the invasion into Afghanistan would be the last nail in the US coffin and linked the recent global changes to what he called the liberation war waged in Afghanistan.
"The tragic 9/11 incident was the reaction to that war," he claimed.
The former army chief also held the 'anti-Islamic' forces responsible for spreading what he called the jihad phenomena.
He said that the US had decided to leave Iraq by June and similarly it would be hard for it to stay in Afghanistan for a long time. (ANI)
