Westerns listening to Arabic nasheeds without any understanding is simply listening to meaningless humming. And hence the need for Nasheeds in English.

I am not keen on them either... and hence, the need for something that we would actually like... in English. I don't know if you remember Yusuf Islam's Afghanistan the Land of Islam?

JazakAllah khair akhi Junayd for the anasheed,I really like "inna ha shahada"

If someone could tell me what theyre saying that would be great.

Akhi A.Z English nasheeds are rubbish I love arabic nasheeds they have real passion real lyrics that have profound meanings (even though I dont understand most of them).Take the nasheed "Idharib Ya Asad ul Fallujah"for example subhanaAllah what an awesome nasheed or "sabaran sabaran Ya Baghdad"thats what I call anasheed.

Another thing I like is when the nasheeds are sung and recorded live on location instead of a recording studio.Ive got a version of the nasheed above "Inna ha shahada"(at least thats what I think its called)which is being sung by Mujahideen somewhere in Iraq and its just brilliant.

I agree

The purpose of anasheed is not its nice tune, yet having no idea what the words mean, that to me is just like a replacement to music.

I think more focus should be on translating arabic anasheed so that they become more meaningful.

At least when the person listens to them they have some idea as to what is being said and hence helping their eemaan.

(aslong as no music) im really not a nasheed person like my lectures 2 much.. but every now n then i like 2 listen... and its defo more better in knowing wat they actually saying i get some parts here n there..

useless.... ppl should think outside the box... they should produce islamic nasheeds that are pleasant to Western ears... like Yusuf Islam nasheed, afghanistan...

isn't that good?

That was sooo corny. I just couldn't take 'Afghanistan'. I first heard it on that azzam pubs film in the 90's about bosnia.

please just listen to the line " ...because the disbelieving army is going to hell.." and the "ya muslimoon ya muslimoon..." part.

And its one of those that will stick in your head if your not careful.

Sorry I should have been a bit more clear in my previous post, what I meant by translating is something similar to this

The genres that you have in western music are so many, I think it would be very difficult to do produce something that appeals to everyone

So why not use what we already have (Arabic nasheeds) which are popular among many many muslims.

Recently I was shocked to find out one of my non practicing cousins telling me she loves Arabic music more than English music and she loves the Arabic language now. I thought that was really strange, it lead me to think Arabic songs must be big on the scene these days.

I could be wrong

like Yusuf Islam nasheed, afghanistan...

isn't that good?

It’s meaningful and has a nice tune but I can’t see it appealing to everyone

Well, I think the reason our attitude is so negative about English nasheeds is because we haven't seen anyone produce something good in English.

Arabic is basically an alternative for practising Muslims who want some sort of halal entertainment.

As far as english nasheeds go I think that was quite good Im not saying I agree with the message that was being given but I think young people can listen to that in their car without looking/feeling silly which you would if you were listening to some of the other english anasheed.

Well... that's the point.. right stuff can be done with right lyrics... Free Babar Ahmad Nasheed I think was also very good, what do you think?

Islamic rendition of Imagine was kind of funny, and I think it only showed the possibility of what can be done... don't you think?

waziri

I dont know if its the fact that I used to like reggae music before I was practicing that I like dirty Kuffar or if its because they've used that funky beat but its got to be one of the best english nasheeds ive heard.Shame about some of the lyrics.

Also there is a group from america who I believe are called "soldiers of Allah"who have very good english nasheed with very good lyrics talking about political islam and current affairs that affect muslims, but unfortunately these guys use instruments.

Abuz Zubair
19th July 2007, 04:21 PM
Babar Ahmad nasheed is an example of instruments free nasheed, and so is Imagine Islam

waziri

I also like the nasheed "I only fear my lord Allah" which is instrument free.

Yes Baber Ahmad nasheed is quite good too.

But still as far as Im concerned the Arabs are miles ahead when it comes to nasheeds maybe its because of the oral tradition or something but some of their nasheeds are just mind blowingly good.Alot of urdu/pashto nasheeds are very good aswell.

Yes, this is the one...

nobeatnecessary is excellent... this is I think what we needed to show what can be achieved in a halal way. Although, this isn't the genre I would like, but I can still appreciate it.

The lyrics need to be more hard hitting I guess... not as controversial as Dirty Kuffar, but you get the drift.
