assalamu alaykum
There is a Hadith rejector in ummah forums who I was discussing with yesterday, and I wanted to ask him what the meaning of ayah 16:43 is?
but before I ask him I wanted to see how the founder of submitters (rejecters of hadith), Rashad Khalifah, translated it, so I opened a site that has like over 10 translations of Quran, and checked his translation and it was basically correct, which surprised me, but then I noticed him posting from a translation by someone called "Asad", his translation was shocking !
the twisting of the meaning and addition is clear
I could bring someone from grade school and he would tell you that his translation is wrong !
also check the other translations.
here is the link to the translations, see how this "Asad" translates ayah 16:43
the second half of the ayah.

in that website, when u click on name of translater it gives u info about the translation and usually also the translater.
now look at what is written under Hilal and Khan translation:
Hilali/Khan
Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali, Ph.D. Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan
(Rough Translation of the Meaning of ) The Noble Quran
In the English Language
Dar-us-Salam Publications
P.O. Box 22743,
Riyadh 11426, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
I strongly recommend that you use an alternate translation of the meaning; the Hilali & Khan work is the least appropriate for dawah work; it comes across to non-Muslims as extremely bigoted.
The peace that is Islam is not to be found in it. To verify this compare it with others, here... http://www.IslamAwakened.com/quran/1
Scroll down to 1:7 and imagine you are trying to use that translation to bring Islam to a Christian or Jew.
Saheeh International has made some efforts to correct these problems while retaining the efforts of (otherwise) strong scholars...
-----------------------------------
Hilali and khan give more than just meaning of the words, they also include simple tafsir between parenthesis, it might be little too much for some non Muslims who know nothing about Islam, but it is very good for Muslims.
so the first part is correct, but the person who made that comment was very wrong in their statement that is in bold, Hilali and Khan wrote nothing from themselves, the explanation they give is found in tafsir books, and it is correct meaning, and we don't translate the meaning of the Quran in a way to please the kuffar.
he or she gave the example of the last ayah in surat al Fatiha, which says that the maghdubi alayhim are Jews and Dhaleen (misguided) are Christians, well that is true, Jews are from the maghdubi alayhim and Christisans are from the misguided, and why should that shock a non Muslim?
everyone who believes in a religion believes that other religions are misguided, and Quran has many ayat speaking about jews and Christians corrupting scriptures, so then we should change the meaning of those ayat too, and twist its meaning to please non Muslims?
i would like members comments on this.

Asslamo Allaikum,
Muhmmad Asad (RA) wasn't a Scholar but I am surprised at this translation because you are right it is way off the mark!
I know someone who has a copy & I would like to double-check this.
Recently Mufti Taqi Uthmani has updated and revised his Father's Tafseer in English...
Here is the FULL translation in PDF:
http://www.central-mosque.com/quran/english_quraan_mufti_taqi.pdf
And here is the Tafseer (before beng updated by Mufti Taqi Usmani):

Here is the translation to buy with explainatory notes from Mufti Taqi Uthmani:

I have been told that this is the only English translation & Tafseer by a contemporary Muslim Scholar.
