Is there any child-specialist or ent specialist doctor here? I need to discuss something. Different doctors have given different opinions. Please respond asap.
Some doctors say that a child should respond to loud sounds from birth onwards and be startled/cry. Others have said hearing develops in 6 weeks. I am going to the best hospital in town tonight insha'allah, but i want to be sure if there is anything to be as woried as we are.

Don't be over worried , I have five children alhamdulilah ,and If I listened to all the doctors I think I would have been in a loony bin from worrying.
My babies when they were newborns and well fed and changed, there was nothing that would startle them.
In UK hearing screening is done at four and a half weeks.
She will be fine InshaAllaah.

wa alaykum assalam,
i agree with sister umm ahmed. when my daughter was a newborn she wouldn't sometimes respond to the door banging or the sound of the hoover yet something as simple as her toy dropping in the room could sometimes wake her up for a few seconds. each child is different. don't worry inshallah.

During our ENT rotation, we learned that the best thing to do is have your baby take an oto-acoustic emission test...takes about a minute to do...best to do within a few days after birth...they basically use a probe and send certain waves into the baby's ear canal...and then they record how much of it comes back and they can tell if the baby can hear or not.
It's best to catch these things early so that if your child is deaf (Allah forbid) then you can immediately get his special needs taken care of.
However, just because your baby does not startle does not mean that he can't hear. I was like that. :D And I hear fine, Al-Hamdu Lillah.
So my advice is to relax and not to worry...and check with your ENT specialist if you can get an oto-acoustic emission test done...
Fi Aman Allah.

take it easy bro, inshallah its nothing, as a new parent you tend to panic at the slightest issue, the doctors dont always help but as jayshallah said you can go to an ENT specialist inshAllah

before going to the doctor yesterday i gave it one final try. I rattles a wooden box full of uncooked macroni and she startled and tried to follow the sound. Alhamdolillah, it was a big relief. Maybe her ears were blocked due to the three hour flight she took some days back. Maybe she was just being lazy. Anyway we have scheduled the hearing test for next week which is the next available just to be sure. Jazakumullahu khair.

She is f9. The other day she was cringing at the sound of the drill machine of the carpentar fixing hangings on our wall. But her mother is stil concerned, so we will do the test anyway insha'Allah.
Jazakillahu khair for your concern and du'aas.
