Once there were two brothers who lived a comfortable, lavish life. One had a daughter, and the other had a son. They didn't have any other children but them. They agreed early on that once the children grew older, they should marry them to eachother. The father of the girl soon died, and shortly after him, the mother died as well. The girl went to live in her uncle's house (the father of the boy), but soon, he also died.

As they grew older and while living in the same compound, they both amassed great wealth from each of their father's inheritance. The boy had a very close friend and companion who was dear to him. He offered his friend to marry his cousin, and they both (his friend and cousin) accepted, and so they were married. Soon afterwards, the couple travelled far away.

The boy sunk into extreme sadness at his cousin's departure, and his agony affected his personal state of mind, which in turn affected his business. He soon lost all of his money and property.

The boy suddenly felt that all of his personal and financial ruin was because of his former companion who married his cousin. He vowed revenge.

The boy travelled to find his companion and aimed at killing him. He travelled day and night in attempt to find them until one day he did. He found them living in a huge mansion, and he asked persmission to enter. His friend refused him entrance and declined his meeting.

The boy left once again in utter sadness until he reached the shore of a beach. He found two gentlemen arguing about a box which each of them claimed to have owned. They asked the boy to judge this matter between them. The boy accepted and threw a rock in the ocean. He told them that whomsoever brings back the rock first, takes the box. As the gentlemen went searching for the rock, the boy ran with box and stole it. He found a great deal of cash and gold.

The boy vowed yet again that he would use this money in order to start a business and create a large empire. He went back to the same city where the couple were, and began his business transactions. The boy grew gradually to become a notorious figure and famous entrepeneur. He became widely known in the city and of its noble characters. One thing about his character is that he never refused anyone who sought work except that he hired him.

One day, an old lady came asking for his help, which made the boy feel sorry for her. He immediately hired her to work for him. In time, she grew to become mother-figure to him. She even found him one of the most beautiful girls in the city to marry, but he refused.

In this one incident, a gorgeous woman came into the store, and the boy felt that she is the one who he wants to marry. The woman requested for an engagement ceremony, and all of the distinguished people in the city were invited. Amongst them was the boy's former companion.

Once the ceremony was finished, and everybody had left, the boy's companion sat still in the corner. The boy went over to him and asked him why hasn't he left for home.

His friend replied, "I do not wish to leave, for your happiness is my happiness, and your joy is my joy. I wish to fulfill my obligations towards you, and I will not leave until I do so"

The boy said, "You are a liar. If you wished to do so, you would have come out the day I visited you in your mansion"

His friend again replied,

"The day you visited me, I was in a meeting with the most prestigious members of society. I was praising you in their presence and mentioning your affluence and wealth. However, once I looked out the window and saw your old, worn-out clothes, I was reluctant to allow you in so that not to blemish your picture infront of them. This way I would not have looked like a liar and you would appear opposite of the picture I drew for them...

As for the women you met, the one who took close care and loved you, then that was my mother. I sent her to you. As for the two gentlemen you met in the ocean side then they were my brothers. I sent them for you and because of you. As for the woman you married, then she is my daughter. As for the people who work for you, then they are my employees and I sent them to work for you. As for your property, money, and business it all belonged to me and I gave it all to you.

This is all due because I cannot forget your selflessness and kindness, and the way you preferred me over yourself when you offered me your only cousin."

JazaakAllahu khayran for sharing that story.

“None of you [truly] believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself.”

May Allaah make us from amongst the true believers, aameen.

Akhoonaa Al 'Azeez Living -Hafidhaka Allahu wa ra'aak-,

Jazaaka Allahu khairan for sharing this story. Besides the obvious lesson of the evils of assuming and suspecting, I'm hoping you can share some of the other lessons that a person can benefit from this story.

Secondly, as I was reading this story it reminded me of a Novel I had once started to read. Even though I never got to finish it, I can safely say it is one of the better novels I have read. It is none other than Cane and Abel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kane_and_Abel_%28novel%29) by Jeffery Archer. For those brothers and sisters who enjoy detailed descriptions and like to live the stories that they read, I would say this novel is a must.

Baaraka Allahu feekum.

Assalam 'alaykum,

Nice story brother it really hit home sometimes with stuff like this, "Su Ad-Dhan" or bad thoughts of others. This especially happens with some trials from Allah, at the exact moment you believe that it is a hardship, but when the trial passes and everything is revealed you come to realize that it was all for the best. Jizak Allah khair.

I'm not a big fan of this forum because of all the attacks on our sinciere brothers fe sabill Allah, but if you want to meet me come on out to Al-Firdaws Forum.

Wa eyak, akhi. I think that this story serves to teach us about the value of being thankful and returning the favor to those who have acted beneficiently towards us. As to the level of returing the favor, it seems that everyone has his own creative way of doing that, but the standard is placed at the importance of being thankful and showing it clearly with word or action.

You really should translate and post more.

I'll try to do my best, akhi. Jazzak Allahu Khairan for your encouragement and kind words.
