As salaamu alykum.

Could some of our more knowledgeable brothers and sisters, and even those with knowledge, such as myself, help get started a comprehensive list of vocabulary for the student of knowledge so that he/she may be able to use and apply their knowledge of Sarf and Nahw once acquired?

From what I've read, most linguists say that around 8,000 words in a given language are required for fluency. Would there be a way for us to put together the 8,000 words or so required for "Islamic Fluency" in the Arabic language? Vocab that is essential to understanding the Quran, Sunnah, and works of the scholars?

Surely this can't be that hard for those of our brothers and sisters who know Arabic.

Can we get this started insha'allah?

Even if you can only contribute a word, do so.

Jazakallahu Khair.

Wa'salaam.

Jazak'Allahu khayran

Sounds like a good idea mashaa'Allaah, but it's a pretty vast project. I guess there are a few things you might need to think about:

- Are there certain areas within the Qur'aan/ahadeeth/works of 'ulama that you will restrict the vocab to?

- There are many words in the Islamic Sciences that have meanings which are very specific to that area of fiqh/hadeeth etc (mustalahat) - how would be selecting them?

- Will you be covering just nouns or verbs and particles as well?

Just some things I would think about inshaa'Allaah...
