As salaamu alaykum.

Is the Usul of the Hanbali madhab the only correct/valid fiqh methodology in existence in the world at present?

I ask this because I have seen on this forum, as well as many other "Salafi" forums, people either encouraging others to study Hanbali texts, encouraging (the laymen) to make Taqleed of the madhab,*******or staunchly defending the "Hanbalinees" of the Shaykh bin Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen.******* I*******have yet to see anyone encourageing the study of any other madhab, save for learning it to refute it or merely be aware of what other opinions Muslims follow.******* Given this, I am led to believe that either

1)******* The Hanbali madhab is the only surviving madhab of fiqh that had a legitimate fiqhi methodology or

2)******* For some reason people are limiting themselves solely to the study and practice of the Hanbali madhab because the Shuyukh from Saudiyyah, for whom we have the utmost of respect, follow this madhab.

Am I correct in either of my conclusions?

Insha'allah I hope that some brothers who are a bit more knowledgeable than the question when it comes to matter of fiqh and Usul can answer my questions.

Please don't simply cut and paste a general article on the topics of Taqleed, madhabs, etc.******* I have read many of them but still don't totally understand this phenomenon.

Barakallahu Fee.

Wa alaykum salaam.

I am not a learned person to be able to answer your question.

However, I will relate my observation as a laymen:

Those 'Salafis' you are referring to, do not, by their confession, pledge their conformance to a particular Madhab, not even the Hanbali. So, I would suggest that any attempts by them (the 'Salafis') to prove the 'Hanbaliness' of the Sheikhs mentioned, would go against the principle of no taqleed, they claim to hold.

Also according to brother Abuz Zubayr (of this forum), the laymen/women are not allowed to call themselves 'Hanbalis'.

I hope that we do not be divided over this issue as we are required to hold onto the 'Rope of Allah'******* (not the 'Salafi' or 'Hanbali' Madhab by name) and not be divided.
