Assalamoalaikum
I need to do my thesis in Latex. Any idea for a complete starter. Any PDF books or stuff. Also where to downoload what? I have my thesis proposal in MS word (pathetic s/ware). Can i convert it to latex. i am having trouble keeping track of the reference numbers.

Yes, depending on certain things.

You can also covert it to rtf and then to Tex, but will (probably) lose some formatting (sub and superscripts etc.)

If you're using Linux, there are several free conversion tools available, such as wvLatex

You can also use OpenOffice.org (http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.1/index.html) to export M$ word documents to LaTex.
